Things you CAN control when you feel pain. Acupuncture is extremely effective for helping people heal and alleviate pain, but often times we are are doing things that sabotage our healing, without even realizing it. Curable has great information about how our responses to pain can make a big difference.
We cannot control pain, but there are things that we can control when we are experiencing it. Knowing this difference is incredibly powerful.
Next time you are in pain (or if you are experiencing pain right now), ask yourself the following questions:
๐ How am I reacting to this pain/sensation/symptom? Am I remaining calm or am I panicking?
๐ How am I responding to this pain/sensation/symptom? Am I responding with love, patience and kindness, or am I getting angry, frustrated and fearful?
๐ How am I behaving while experiencing this pain/sensation/symptom? Am I going into fix-it mode, trying to make it go away? Am I avoiding activities or people, and cancelling all my plans? Or am I accepting it, doing my best to allow it and engage in my life as best as I can?
๐ How am I talking about this pain/sensation/symptom? Am I telling everyone about it in detail and using negative words to describe how awful it feels? Or am I choosing to not talk about it at all and focus on other topics? If I am talking about it a little, am I using more neutral words?
๐ How am I setting boundaries while experiencing this pain/sensation/symptom? Am I people-pleasing and disregarding my own needs right now, or am I setting boundaries with others and asking for what I need?
How you react, respond, behave, talk, and set boundaries makes all the difference in your recovery from chronic pain and symptoms. For more on this (including the proven science behind it), check out our app with the link in bio.
