For our January , we’d like you to meet Jean!

She was chosen for her warm, friendly personality and consistently positive outlook. She is very active in body, mind, and spirit, and her cheerful energy is felt by everyone around her. Jean often shares a special memory of her father, who lovingly called her “Jean the Dancing Machine”—a nickname that still fits her joyful spirit today.

One thing she loves about living at The Barclay is the friendly people and the sense of community.

If she could give one piece of advice, it would be to keep a positive attitude no matter what.

Fun fact: Her favorite movie is The Sound of Music.

For some our team members, it all began with visiting a parent and returning each week to bring music and connection through the ukulele club. For our January , we would like to recognize Melissa! She has become a vital part of our community.

Melissa is an extremely hard worker and always goes above and beyond for our residents. She discovered her passion for caring for others at a young age while helping care for her grandparents. That experience led her to pursue nursing, graduating from Piedmont Virginia Community College in 2007. With nearly 20 years of experience, she has worked with older adults, children, individuals with mental illness, and those in recovery.

Her favorite part about working at The Barclay is working with seniors. She finds it especially rewarding and loves hearing residents’ stories and wisdom.

Fun fact: In her free time, she enjoys traveling, spending time with her niece and nephews, and reading a good book.
