In honor of the annual Great American Smokeout, the To***co Free Community Coalition (TFCC) will be on the Downtown Mall by the Violet Crown Theater from 10 AM to 2 PM this Thursday, 11/20.

They will have information on quitting smoking, va**ng, dipping, ni****ne, and to***co, as well as free giveaways to help support you on your quitting journey. Stop by to meet experts in to***co cessation and former to***co users themselves!

Can't make it in-person? That's okay! You can still start your quit journey today by visiting QuitNowVirginia.org for custom-tailored support and resources to make quitting easier.

No matter how long you've been smoking or how old you are, it's never too late to quit 🙌

🚨 Public Health Alert: Rabid Cat Confirmed in Charlottesville 🚨

On November 4, 2025, a black cat exhibiting aggressive behavior was reported along the Rivanna Trail near the Free Bridge (1400 block of Long Street) and in the vicinity of River Road and Belleview Avenue. The cat was captured and submitted for rabies testing, which returned positive results on the evening of November 12, 2025.

Anyone who may have had contact with a black cat in these areas - particularly if they were bitten, scratched, or exposed to the cat’s saliva - on November 3 or the morning of November 4 is urged to take immediate action.

If you believe you were exposed, please contact the Charlottesville/Albemarle Health Department at 434-972-6219 as soon as possible to assess your risk and determine if post-exposure treatment is needed.

Following new federal guidance, we anticipate that 65% of their regular monthly SNAP benefits for more than 850,000 Virginians will be distributed by Thursday, November 13.

With the federal government’s reinstatement of SNAP benefits for November, the Commonwealth's Virginia Emergency Nutrition Assistance (VENA) initiative has been paused.

Any VENA benefits already received will not impact the November SNAP issuance amount for SNAP customers.

Please visit www.dss.virginia.gov for current information and updates.

What are the latest COVID-19 vaccine recommendations?

✅People aged 6 months and older may receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
✅People 3 years of age and older may receive a COVID-19 vaccine at a pharmacy without a prescription.
✅People can get COVID-19 vaccine from healthcare providers, including pharmacists.
✅People interested in getting their COVID-19 vaccine should talk to a healthcare provider, including pharmacists, about getting the vaccine. This is called “shared clinical decision making.” Healthcare providers already do this—they help you make informed decisions about care you receive.

Make sure to check with your pharmacy or healthcare provider about the availability of vaccines.
