Artist has created the most magical mushroom-themed pup—and we are absolutely enchanted. 🎨✨

🐾💛 Have you ever stopped by an SDV table at a local event? Then you have probably met one of our wonderful Event Volunteers!
This Volunteer Appreciation Month we are giving a huge shoutout to the friendly faces who help staff our tables, set up and spread the word about SDV out in the community. 🙌🐕
Without their help we would not be able to attend nearly as many events or connect with as many people who need to hear about our mission. They are the heart of our community outreach and we are so grateful! 💛
If you have ever volunteered at an SDV event — thank you! Drop a comment below and tell us which event was your favorite! 🐾

🐾💛 This Volunteer Appreciation Month we are spotlighting three incredible volunteers who make SDV run in ways you might never see — but we notice every single day.
✈️ Polly — board member and our very own puppy courier! Polly flies to pick up puppies from other service dog organizations and bring them to us, saving SDV the cost of those flights. We could not do this without her!
🏥 Lyn — our longtime insurance hero. When a dog is sick or has an emergency Lyn is already on it, submitting claims and tracking reimbursements so we don't have to. It is a huge job and she handles it with grace every single time.
🐕 Mary Minor — our behind the scenes superstar. From filing to making Kongs for the dogs, Mary Minor tackles it all so we can focus on the bigger projects that move our mission forward.
Thank you Polly, Lyn and Mary — you are such an important part of this family! 💛

We’re back with a fresh round of Art Unleashed sneak peeks—and this one is perfectly timed for the season. 🐎✨

Racing into your week with a very timely reveal—just in time for the The Foxfield Races — artist Susana Weber has created a pup that just might give the horses a run for their money! 🎨

A huge thank you to our friends at Charlottesville Aquatics, Inc. for sponsoring this one! 🙏

We can’t wait to see the final design come to life. 👀

🐾💛 Ever wondered what happens when our Puppy Raisers or Nights and Weekends Volunteers need a break? We call our Respite Volunteers!
Whether it is a weekend away or a couple of weeks, our Respite Volunteers step in to care for our dogs in place of their regular volunteer — keeping everything running smoothly and our dogs happy and loved. 🏡🐕
It may be a flexible role but it is an absolutely essential one and we are so thankful for each and every one of them! 💛

SDV Jake has found his new favorite thing… the fish tank! 🐠🐾

Jake is in full puppy explorer mode — and honestly, can you blame him? A giant bowl of swimming creatures is pretty hard to resist!

But this is exactly why the puppy stage matters so much. Every new experience — whether it's a fish tank, a crowded store, or a noisy elevator — helps build the calm, confident, focused service dog Jake is destined to become.

SDV Perry is getting ready for his June transfer camp! 🐾

He’s been practicing in busy public spaces, building the skills he’ll need to support his future handler. Autism service dog cues include things like interrupting repetitive or anxious behaviors, providing deep pressure for calming, and helping redirect focus during overwhelming moments.

Here he is confidently posing with a mannequin—training includes exposure to all kinds of unusual sights so he can stay calm no matter what he encounters. 😊

🐾💛 This Volunteer Appreciation Month we are shining a spotlight on one of the most important volunteer roles in our organization — our Puppy Raisers!

We simply could not do what we do without them. Meet the people who open their homes and their hearts, putting in the daily work of raising our future service dogs from the very beginning. 🐕

SDV Jake, Puppy Raiser Liz, and SDV Justine, Puppy Raiser Kristie, recently headed to Great Outdoor Provision Co for puppy class — taking the skills they have been practicing at home and putting them to the test in a public setting. New sights, sounds and smells make for incredible training opportunities and it is all made possible by the dedication of their puppy raisers! 🎉

If you have ever been a puppy raiser for SDV — thank you! Drop a picture of your puppy in the comments below and let's see those furry memories! 🐾
