Meg as she prepares a shrub for one of the herbal mocktails we’re serving next weekend.

This shrub is made from trifoliate orange, aka flying dragon, and it was gifted to us from the beautiful Mountain Run farm when we are at

Every aspect of this event is highly intentional, meant to serve as a microcosm of our mission and vision, a glimpse of the web we’ve been weaving behind the scenes 🕸️

There’s so much richness in just this one ingredient of this one mocktail. We could tell you a whole story about all the people, plants, and animals involved in getting this delicious citrus to us.

Next Saturday, we’re inviting you to step into our world, not just as an observer but as a participant. Each guest will bring a plant that will be transformed during the evening into a community hydrosol that we’ll all have as a physical reminder of the events’ liminal magic.

This winter, when we get that annual 2 inches of snow that effectively shuts down the city…will your medicine cabinet be stocked and ready to go if you come down with case of the cold-weather blues?

Imagine opening your cabinet to a full shelf of herbal medicines:
🙅🏽‍♀️flu-fighting elderberry syrup
🍵 immune-boosting herbal tea
🍄‍🟫 dried mushrooms to simmer in your pot of bone broth
🫚 ginger for hot foot baths that’ll warm your whole body
💪🏽 warm salves to rub on cold, sore muscles.

Believe it or not, these remedies are pretty easy to make at home, and that’s exactly what you’ll learn in STOCKING YOUR WINTER APOTHECARY, a workshop by owner and herbalist Meg Madden.

She’ll show you how to stock your home apothecary with immune boosting preparations. You’ll learn how to make potent decoctions, delicious syrups, lung-opening steams, and topical oils and salves to stock up for the winter.

Expect detailed instruction so you can confidently make these medicines at home, plus several recipe sheets for inspiration.

Late Summer is Goldenrod season.

The saturated light distilled, spun, and wound around the stems of Solidago.

As the summer progresses, we watch the blossoms’ colors deepen, become rich, bright, primary, and we can feel that as a harbinger of the turning of the season; things often intensify before change.

But also, before change, before the equinox, with the help of Virgo season and Goldenrod, we can organize, sort and file, boost our vital energy and tend our sore muscles for the transition into Autumn, into Libra season, and into the twilight of the year.

This month in Herb of the Month Club, we’re journeying with Goldenrod.

As usual, we’re learning by doing: sipping the tea, applying the infused oil to our skin, and observing it in nature.

There’s still time to join before our first live call this Monday, Sept. 8th. Link in bio to sign up.

Herb of the Month Club prioritizes your unique relationship to plants. At the top of the month, you won’t receive much information about that month’s herb.

This is intentional, and encourages you to form your own understanding independent of what others – “experts“ or otherwise – have to say.

While you’ll receive plenty of information in the form of handouts about that month’s herb, we’ll release it at a slow drip.

Join Herb of the Month Club for as little as $12/month by heading to the link in our bio

Reading a book or taking a class are great ways to deepen your herbal knowledge, but the best way to learn is through ✨experience✨

In Herb of the Month Club, you’ll learn by tasting, touching, identifying plants out in nature, and feeling how the herb affects your unique physiology.

When someone asks you, “who’s this plant?” You want to be able to answer from a place of first hand experience, not simply regurgitated material from an herb book.

There’s so much to learn when it comes to plant medicine – HotM Club helps you actually retain some of that knowledge so you’re better prepared to support yourself and your family with herbs.

We start July 1st. Membership starts at $12/month. Click the link in our bio to learn more and register 💚🌱

PS July’s herb is yarrow 🙂

New year, new nerves? If only that were true!

Words like stress, anxiety, exhaustion, burnout, brain fog are familiar refrains that seem to run through, well, everything these days.

It’s true, there’s not a singular process in the body that is not in direct relationship with the elegant, complicated nervous system.

And while it’s also true that we can’t start 2025 with a fresh set of nerves, we can do the next best thing:

learn how to lower anxiety, build resilience after burnout, and manage stress through a deeper understanding of the anatomy and physiology of the central and peripheral nervous systems, as well as herbs and practices to tend, nourish, and calm them.

Join us for Session II as Sydney and Meg guide you through the brain and nerves, their relationships with other systems, how to care for them with energetic herbalism and practices.

Our Story

The Elderberry is a community-based herbal apothecary where experienced herbalists will assist you in achieving better health and more vitality with one-on-one consultations, customized herbal preparations and interactive classes.

We’re here to help you feel more vibrant and connected to your life using the power of plant medicine. It can be confusing and overwhelming to figure out what would be helpful and appropriate for your situation. Consulting with an herbalist focuses on treating you, not a diagnosis, and yields an individualized formula based on the symptoms you’re experiencing. We create both internal and external preparations utilizing our extensive herbal apothecary including loose herbs, extracts and oils.

Wherever you are on that journey, we’ll be here to offer the support, guidance, and the empowerment you need to create a new balance in your life.
