Happy Halloween from all our PAC offices! Check out these tips to stay safe and have fun tonight from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management.
🎃💀👻😹Halloween & Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips from VDEM🎃💀👻😹
• Safe steps, sweet treats: Carry a flashlight, wear reflective costumes, and always walk on sidewalks.
• Plan a route: go with a buddy, and keep your phone charged. If you’re driving, slow down in neighborhoods and watch for kids.
• Visibility is our favorite costume: Add reflective tape or glow sticks to costumes and treat bags so little ghouls and goblins are easy to spot.
• Crosswalks: Teach kids to stop, look, and listen before crossing. Parents, model safe crossing behavior tonight
• Costume safety check: Choose flame-retardant fabrics, skip trailing fabrics, and ensure any masks don’t block vision.
• Car safety reminder: If you’re out driving, stay alert for costumed pedestrians, especially near schools and neighborhoods. Share the road this Halloween.
• Candy safety 101: Inspect wrappers, discard damaged items, and remind kids not to eat unwrapped treats. When in doubt, toss it out.
• Home pumpkin lighting tip: Use battery-powered candles or LED lights inside jack-o’-lanterns to reduce fire risk.
• Weather watch: Virginia weather can be unpredictable in October. Dress for the forecast and bring a lightweight rain layer if needed.
• After every door: Teach kids to stay with an adult, know a meetup spot, and call 911 if they’re lost or injured. Keep Virginia safe, one spooky step at a time!
