Living with knee pain from osteoarthritis? You have options!

Osteoarthritis affects more than 32 million adults in the U.S. and can cause pain, stiffness, swelling, and limited mobility—especially in the knees. When physical therapy, medications, or injections stop working, surgery isn’t your only choice.

Genicular Artery Embolization (G*E) is a non-surgical treatment option for patients with moderate to severe knee osteoarthritis. G*E works by targeting inflammation in the knee that contributes to chronic pain—without replacing the joint.

At UVA Health, G*E is performed by expert interventional radiologists using advanced imaging, typically as a same-day procedure with minimal recovery time.

- No joint replacement
- Minimally invasive
- Designed to reduce pain and inflammation

If knee pain is holding you back, learn whether G*E may be right for you.

Call UVA Health Interventional Radiology at (434) 924-9401 to learn more or schedule an appointment.

Your knees carry you through life—let’s take care of them.

The first lecture will feature Michael Dake, MD, former UVA Radiology professor and department chair (2005–2008). During his tenure, Dr. Dake led a transformative seven-year physical and technological renovation—advancements that continue to shape the department today. He is currently a professor of radiology and imaging sciences, surgery, and medicine at the University of Arizona.

Date: April 23, 2026

Time: 12:30–1:15 p.m.

Place: Moss Auditorium

This lecture series is made possible by the Alan H. Matsumoto, MD, and Julie A. Matsumoto, MD, Endowment, established in 2024 to honor their more than 30 years of combined service to UVA Radiology. The endowment supports innovation, clinical programs, and education across diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, and imaging sciences.

We look forward to welcoming Dr. Dake and celebrating the legacy—and future—of excellence in UVA Radiology.

Cardiovascular disease remains the leading cause of death in the U.S. — and new data from the American Heart Association reinforces why prevention and early detection matter more than ever.

We’re proud to highlight Dr. Christopher Kramer, Chief of UVA Health’s Cardiovascular Division and President of the American College of Cardiology, who is also a valued part of our department. In a recent interview with UVA Today, Dr. Kramer breaks down the latest findings from the AHA’s 2023 report, including encouraging declines in mortality and ongoing challenges driven by obesity, hypertension, and diabetes.

His insights underscore the critical role of imaging, collaboration, and prevention in cardiovascular care — and the importance of continued innovation across specialties.
