Today is the first day of the week, the first Sunday of February, and the first public day that I am no longer the owner of Thrive Yoga and Wellness.

Effective imediately, Thrive Yoga and Wellness is now Southern Soul Yoga + Pilates

It's been a wonderful 8 + Years as leader of this fine tribe of folks, and the announcement is certainly NOT something I take easily. However, between home school with my kiddos, a full time real estate career, and the Studio, I was finding myself more and more stressed, less and less able to take regular time off, and genuinely tired.

Which, if you know me, is unusual because hyper doesn't really begin to describe my personality.

However, I turned 44 this year (YOWSERS!) and after some weird health issues last year, chronic injuries not improving, and countless other "signs" that perhaps, just maybe, I was doing too much, It became all too clear I had to give something up.

That's why I'm so happy to announce that Thrive Yoga and Pilates will now be Southern Soul Yoga. Effective immediately, Jenna and Ryan Wright are the leaders of this fine tribe. I am so excited to see the new heights that they can take my super special second home.

I'm gonna lay low - teaching wise - at least for a little while. If you know me, you know I can't NOT teach/share what I love, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE Yoga and Pilates. Judson Ross and I plan on taking a road trip out west this summer, and maybe going overseas, since I should now have the time to figure out how to renew our passports and get the kiddos theirs :)

However, I'm not going away. I am always here, just one DM or phone call away. I would love hiking buddies, phone call pals and coffee dates with all my amazing Thrive Yoga and Wellness people, so don't be strangers!

Today's Teacher Tuesday focuses on our lovely Alex DeRose.
🌟We can thank her sister in law, Naomi, for introducing Alex to Pilates and our studio.
🥰She did her teacher training here at Thrive Yoga and Wellness last year.
🏋️‍♀️Before that, she was a personal trainer for 5 years, so she is a natural at teaching our new Pilates Circuit.
👫Alex loves how we are all like a little family at Thrive.
🪑She really likes the Wunda chair and doing the "pull up"

For Beginner Mat Pilates, catch Alex on Mondays at 5:30 pm.
For Pilates Circuit, come on Mondays at 6:30 pm or Sundays at 10:00 am.

🌞You too can be a Pilates instructor. Our new semester starts March 3. You can train in Beginner Mat Pilates, Intermediate Mat Pilates or Comprehensive Pilates where you can teach on the EQUIPMENT as well.

This 👇🏼is my favorite thing to do— teach.

I especially love teaching teachers.

We are a different breed, us teachers.

We are the weirdos that like to make people feel better, think better, be better- and by doing so, we get better with them.

Everytime a student trusts me to teach, I get a small thrill of hope- for them and for me, and it’s why I’m so excited to watch these future teachers learn.

Yesterday, during Yoga Teacher Training at Thrive Yoga and Wellness we worked on assisting techniques I learned from my teacher- I call this the “massage-y” assist. It’s fun to both perform the assist as well as receive the assist- which is why these ladies are smiling so big!

Special thanks to my girls Crystal Hall and Amy White for letting me capture this moment, and for my teacher, Manju Jois for teaching me how to teach these ladies! It is my hope to carry on your legacy, Manju, and to help spread the joy of yoga and teaching just like you!

Drs Jaicy and Katelyn, Doctors of Physical Therapy with Elite Muscle Recovery, will be leading this interactive workshop. Our time will include:

✔Education on compound movements and their benefits
✔Education on the different components of the balance system
✔Practice with multiple compound yoga movements and discussion on which muscle groups and balance components are being worked
✔Ideas for modifications to these positions due to:
*Injury
*The need for increased or decreased balance challenge

✨Don’t be intimidated by lack of ballet terminology. Here are the words you need to know for our PBT and classical barre classes:

📖Classical Ballet Vocabulary

Plie: (plee-ay) to bend. This term means bending of the knees and can be
done Demi or grand.
Battement Tendu: (bat-MAHN tahn-DEW) to stretch. A basic step stretching or pointing the foot along the floor in three directions—
DEVANT: TO THE FRONT, DERRIERE: TO THE BACK, OR A LA SECONDE: TO THE SIDE
Battement Dégagé: (bat-MAHN day-ga-ZHAY) to disengage. Another basic step brushing the foot off of the floor 3-5 inches.
Port de Bras: (pawr duh brah) movement of the arms
Eleve/Releve: to rise/re-rise. Rising on the balls of your feet, knees straight.
Ronde de Jambe: (rawn duh zhahmb) to circle the leg. Movement done with straight working leg through first position. Can begin front (en dehors) or from the back (en dedans).
DEHORS: OUTSIDE, EN DEDANS: INSIDE
Soussus: (su-suu) under-over. A releve in fifth position closing the legs tightly together with heels forward.
Cambre: (kahm-bray) to arch. Movement of the upper body from the waist to the front, side or back.
Passe: (pah-say) passed. Bringing the toe underneath the knee with the knee to the side.
Temps lie: (tahn-lee-ey) Time linked/connected. A transferring of weight from one foot to the other with coordinating ports de bras.
Chasse: (sha-SAY) to chase. A gliding step with one foot always leading. Reverence: at the end of class, a bow or curtsey paying respect to the audience

Fondu: to melt. A slow bending of the supporting leg
