Hello, everyone. We want to let everyone know our sonographer Gabi is leaving to move closer to her family out west. Her last day will be tomorrow, Nov. 16. She has been fantastic and will be missed, but we wish her well with her new job.

We also want to ask that if you know anyone with echocardiography experience who may be interested in joining us, we are hiring - please have them contact us!

All Heart Pediatric Cardiology, a state-of-the-art pediatric cardiology practice in Chattanooga, Tennessee, is seeking a full-time licensed practical nurse. Duties would include rooming patients and obtaining vital signs, performance of electrocardiograms and exercise stress tests, and communication with patients and their families. Experience in a fast paced health care environment is a plus, as is experience with electronic medical records and other medical office software. At least one year of experience in pediatrics and/or cardiology is strongly preferred. The ideal candidate will be a reliable and confident yet friendly and people-oriented individual who is a team player.

All Heart Pediatric Cardiology is an equal opportunity employer and welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds.

To continue my thoughts from the first post, the symptoms which this virus causes in most affected people include fever (generally over 102), cough (usually dry), and shortness of breath. Some people will also have muscle aches. Right now, it is recommended that if you or your child contract it but the symptoms are mild, stay home. Treat this like any other cold or flu-like illness. Get plenty of rest. Drink plenty of fluids. If the shortness of breath becomes more severe and you are worried that support is needed, that is the time to go to the ER. Watch for updates from the CDC and the federal task force regarding availability of testing; we are being told that an update may come as soon as later today.

We are planning to stay open as long as we do not contract the illness and as long as the public health authorities allow. However, we would ask that certain patients call and reschedule their appointments:

- Anyone who has the above symptoms, until at least 1 week after they resolve.
- Anyone who in the past 3 weeks has knowingly been in contact with someone positive for coronavirus.
- Anyone who in the past 3 weeks has travelled to a high risk area. While this list is frequently updated by the public health authorities, as of this moment it includes China, Iran, South Korea, and all of Europe.

If you need to reschedule but have a heart related concern that needs to be discussed now, please leave a message with your call to reschedule, and we can speak by telephone.

We care greatly about all of you! Please let us know any concerns you have.

Good morning, this is Dr. Johnson. I wanted to give our thoughts on the current situation with coronavirus (COVID-19). I am happy to talk directly with any of you who have concerns. Unless we contract this ourselves, we are planning to remain open. I will post on that in my next post.

Above all else, I encourage you to not panic. I know that this is scary. Once unreported cases are included, the death rate from this virus is likely to be well less than reported in the media. Those of us with heart defects are likely at higher risk. (For those I haven't told, I'm a congenital heart patient, too, but that is a subject for another time.) While the exact risk is unknown, for all but the most serious heart defects it is unlikely to be that much higher than those without heart disease.

Realize that this is a very fluid situation. Advice anyone may give you that is correct on one day may prove to be incorrect the next day. I encourage you to use reliable sites such as the CDC, NIH, and WHO to keep up to date. The CDC's site may be reached by the following link:

https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html

This is a very contagious virus, but common sense and basic precautions will help protect you and others. Basic hygiene is very effective at killing this virus. Wash your hands with soap and water. If this isn't possible, hand sanitizer also works. Clean your hands in particular after touching surfaces in public, and don't touch your face until you do. The virus can be killed very easily on surfaces at home with standard disinfectants such as Lysol, Chlorox, and others. Keep a greater distance from others in public. Avoid large public gatherings. Follow the current recommendations the CDC and the Department of Health have regarding public activities. Stay home if you are sick, unless hospital care is needed.

As others have said more eloquently, with faith and wisdom we will get through this. Wisdom in taking appropriate precautions and hygienic steps. Faith knowing God will see our country and our world through this.

Please let me know if you have any concerns regarding you or your child. We will prevail over this!

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is a virus (more specifically, a coronavirus) identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness first detected in Wuhan, China.
