🚨 Hot Topic Alert 🚨
Filtered Water
I’ll preface this by saying but we got a lot of questions so here we go.
Our research, knowledge, experience, and instincts lead us to what works for us. Take what resonates and works for you 🤗
There are some things we do well in this category and some things that are a work in progress.
For me, my initial research began probably 8-10 years ago when looking for an affordable filter that would remove glyphosate. That’s where the Zero Water filter was the winner. Yes, the plastic jug (not ideal) is a totally different “hot topic” but I also have the large glass dispenser.
After moving back to the USA we were still able to get the Zero Water filter (widely available) but wanted a solution for the fridge. We chose Crystal Quest (I order online directly from them). They have a lot of options for inline fridge (we attach this to the wall behind our fridge) - you can choose with level of removal works best for you. For us, we wanted fluoride removed, Pharmaceutical residue removed (USA water is recycled, a lot is not filtered out), and other items.
In USA some contaminants in the water can include:
• Lead from old pipes
• PFAS (“forever chemicals”) linked to cancer & hormone disruption
• Nitrates from farm runoff 🌽
• Glyphosate and other pesticides/herbicides
• Pharmaceutical residues from human & animal waste 💊
• Chlorine & byproducts formed during disinfection
• Arsenic in some regions’ groundwater
There are a lot of other options including whole house systems, under-sink, reverse osmosis etc. feel free to share in comments what has worked for you and your family. This is what has worked for us currently, and within our budget.
Things we are aware of thats bad but we have not done anything about it (yet).
1. We currently have zero filters on the bath/shower water. I know Chlorine gets observed through the skin FAST and really need one of those cheap-ish dangling filters for the bath spout.
2. Chlorine in the pool 🤷🏼♀️. It bothers me, yes. One day I’d love to convert but I’ve not done any research on options or cost.
It comes down to what’s important to you, what you can afford. It’s not about perfection!! It is VERY easy to become OCD or “all or nothing” with these type of things. I think it’s better to just do your best, be educated on what works for you and why you’re doing it. It’s about “be better, do better”, not perfection.
Regarding bottled water. That might be the best option for you, and that’s totally fine. Be sure to get BPA free however, the other substitutes/additives are probably endocrine disruptors too. When I’m out and about it’s what I choose. Don’t ever leave it or drink out of one that’s been left in a hot car.
Other Water topics that currently intrigue me but I have zero or limited experience: Hydrogen Water, Oxygenated Water, Alkaline Water…
Oh, and all of that to say my childhood carries memories of drinking straight from the hose - I survived 😉
