Welcome Dr. Daniel Nelson to USA!

Dr. Nelson specializes in the management of cancers involving the liver, biliary system, pancreas and gastrointestinal tract (digestive system).

Dr. Nelson is board certified through the American Board of Surgery (ABS) in Complex General Surgical Oncology. He received his fellowship training in Surgical Oncology at the John Wayne Cancer Institute in Santa Monica, California. He also received specialized fellowship training in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Cancer Surgery at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas.

Prior to joining USA, Dr. Nelson was a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Medical Corps with 14 years of active-duty service. His military career included combat deployments to Afghanistan (2019) and Iraq (2021). His service has been recognized with numerous military awards including three meritorious service medals, a Combat Action Badge, the Army Commendation Medal with Combat Device, and a NATO ISAF Medal.

In her words, "The Erlanger pancreatic cancer team is proud to be included among the top pancreas cancer medical centers in the United States. Our mission is to provide state-of-the-art, compassionate care to patients afflicted with this challenging disease.”

We’re proud to share that Erlanger has been nationally recognized as a Center of Excellence by the The National Pancreas Foundation, making us the only NPF-designated center in our region and one of just two in Tennessee.

Our pancreatic cancer program is led by a team of advanced fellowship-trained specialists, including oncologists, gastroenterologists, surgeons, and radiologists. We also offer patient-focused services like pain management and psychosocial support to ensure personalized care throughout every stage of the journey.
