ā€œFor unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government shall be upon His shoulder. And His name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The Mighty God, The Everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.ā€

- Isaiah 9:6

As we shuffle into church doors and crowded living rooms, let’s remember why we celebrate. It’s never been about the gifts, the food, the ā€œmagicā€.

It’s ALWAYS been about Emmanuel.

To me, this is the heartbeat of the Gospel—an invitation for the weary to come exactly as they are. Not polished. Not ā€œput together.ā€ Not ready with a smile that hides the ache.

Just… you.

The original hymn calls the faithful to come, but the truth is that Jesus never waited for us to be strong or steady before welcoming us close. He drew near to the hurting, the overwhelmed, the ashamed, the ones who weren’t sure they belonged.

So this line is a reminder:
If you’re carrying fear into this season, come.
If your heart feels heavy with grief, come.
If you’re worn out from trying to hold everything together, come.

You don’t need to fix yourself first.
You don’t need to ā€œfeel holyā€ to belong.
You don’t need to earn your place at the manger.

Jesus welcomes you—not the cleaned-up version of you, but the honest, trembling, tired version.

Come as you are.
There is room for you here.

Progress isn’t always big or obvious. Sometimes it’s just choosing differently than you used to. If today feels quiet or ordinary, let it still count. Take a moment to notice how far you’ve come—God’s been at work, even in the small steps.

Last week we touched on a hard topic most of us face in some capacity during the holidays, loneliness. Whether that’s missing a loved one or just feeling misunderstood while standing in a room full of people, we get it.

Loneliness has a way of whispering that we’re left out, overlooked, or not enough—but those are not God’s words about us. He calls us beloved. He draws near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18) and promises, ā€œI will never leave you nor forsake youā€ (Deuteronomy 31:6).

No matter what we face, we can call out to God, confident that He hears us, surrounds us, and delivers us from our struggles.

Jesus never chased applause, approval, or being seen. He didn’t measure His purpose by who noticed Him. Instead, He stayed rooted in the Father’s voice. He met with His disciples in quiet places—on still waters, at the well when no one else was around, in moments hidden from the crowd.

He wasn’t driven by comparison or pressure. He didn’t need to prove anything. He knew who He belonged to and the purpose God had already placed in Him.

That’s the invitation for us, too: to stop looking sideways and start looking upward. To remember that our worth doesn’t come from being noticed, impressive, or ā€œenoughā€ by someone else’s standard…but from the God who’s already called us, equipped us, and given us a purpose that stands even in the quiet.

This season makes it so easy to compare—trees, families, bonuses, moments. But comparison doesn’t make us better… it just makes us smaller. It steals joy and blinds us to the gifts God has already placed in us.

Here’s what we’re learning:
šŸŽ„Comparison breeds jealousy + self-doubt
šŸŽ„Your story and gifts are uniquely yours
šŸŽ„God invites you to shift your focus from ā€œwhat they haveā€ to ā€œwhat He’s given youā€

And woven into all of this is the truth of Jeremiah 29:11—that God has a plan and a purpose for your life. A hope-filled future that fits the way He designed you.

A few simple ways to realign:
āœ“ Celebrate others and thank God for your own gifts
āœ“ Write down 3 ways He’s uniquely equipped you
āœ“ When comparison creeps in, ask: ā€œHow can I use my gifts to bless someone today?ā€

Stepping into this season trusting that God’s plan for you is good—and you don’t have to compare to walk confidently in it.

We got home from our Thanksgiving celebration in Kentucky, and honestly… on Sunday it was so tempting to just sit and be. Nothing wrong with that at all — rest is needed.

But then Tony (my hubs) asked, ā€œAre you going to go walk today?ā€

Ugh. I didn’t want to.
But I had committed to 10k steps a day — 70k a week.
And deep down, I knew the walk would help me clear my mind.

So I went.
Out into the forest…
Talking with God…
Letting my soul settle.
And wow — what a peaceful, restorative time.

(Oh — and I ended up hitting 14,000 steps. šŸ˜‰)

Sometimes we avoid doing what we should do because of a feeling.
And for my heart-centered types — Enneagram 2, 3, and 4 — feelings are powerful.
But sometimes they can steer you away from what actually brings life.

Take a moment today to pause and ask:
ā€œWhat do I feel — and what actually needs to happen?ā€

You might discover unexpected blessings in the ā€œshould doā€ things.

The holidays can stir up more than joy—sometimes it’s pressure, old hurts, or the fear of not measuring up. Family dynamics, expectations, and the desire to ā€œget it all rightā€ can quietly pull our hearts into worry.

When that anxious swirl starts, pause long enough to notice what’s underneath. Is it fear of disappointing someone? Pressure to be perfect? A memory you’re bracing for?

Scripture reminds us to take our thoughts captive and let God renew our minds. Naming what’s true (and what isn’t) helps make space for His peace to settle in again.

And with Thanksgiving tomorrow, let’s step into the day with a gentler pace—paying attention to our thoughts, inviting God into the moment, and choosing peace over pressure.

Right now, everyone’s to-do lists might feel extra heavy — whether you’re traveling, hosting, or just showing up for Thanksgiving. We know ours is.šŸ˜®ā€šŸ’Ø

Thank goodness we’re not measured by what is on our lists! Or what gets crossed off!

Consider this your invitation to slow down and breathe.

Take time to ā€œcome to Me,ā€ as Jesus invites. (Matthew 11:28-30).
