AIM Center, Inc.

AIM Center, Inc. We are non-medical and non-clinical, however, we work in concert with other professionals to provide comprehensive mental health services.

The AIM Center clubhouse provides psychosocial rehabilitation services to create hope, community and social change to enrich and celebrate the lives of people living with serious mental illness. AIM Center is a nonprofit mental health program offering employment, education, housing, socialization, and wellness opportunities for adults living with serious mental illness. Our focus is recovery! What makes us unique to the region? Utilizing a psychosocial rehabilitation model known as the "Clubhouse program," the AIM Center allows Clubhouse members to develop relationships and create an individual recovery plan, whilst working side by side with other program participants and staff. Since 1989, we have helped over 3,000 adults in the Chattanooga community lead a full and meaningful life, while living with serious mental illness. Each day 75 to 100 participants, called Clubhouse members, come to the AIM Center to engage in recovery activities. By working together with staff and other members, individuals begin to feel needed and accepted, discover their strengths and abilities, and develop relationships based on mutual respect and shared contributions. AIM Center members have equal voices in all facets of the Clubhouse ‘s operations including planning leisure activities, hiring staff, making decisions about policies and procedures, and having input into the long-range planning of the Clubhouse. Services provided outside the Clubhouse model promote community integration, which includes transitional and supported employment, supported education, supported housing, and leisure activities. The program is open to persons with a diagnosed psychiatric disorder who are 18 years of age or older. Membership to AIM Center is without time limits, so individuals may return to AIM Center whenever they need or want additional support.

AIM Center is celebrating 37 years today! 🥳

For 37 years, we have been a place where recovery is possible, and where community, purpose, and opportunity come together. Each day, our Clubhouse is filled with meaningful work, shared meals, new goals, job milestones, and moments of connection that remind us no one has to navigate their mental health journey alone.

We are grateful to continue creating a welcoming, supportive space for both longtime members and those just beginning their path with us. Here is to another year of building community, fostering independence, and keeping hope at the center of everything we do! 🧡

Last Tuesday, our Clubhouse had the unique opportunity to contribute to a national public art installation in Washington, D.C.! We painted large panels that will become part of the final installation later this year. With our friends at Mark Making, who made this opportunity possible, the Clubhouse showcased its creativity and collaboration throughout the process. 🎨

Portraits of Hope a non-profit organization founded by brothers Bernie and Ed Massey, is known worldwide for large-scale public art installations that bring together people from diverse backgrounds and communities. Their most recent project, “National Project USA 250th,” involves painting panels that will be applied to floating sculptures installed in the Reflecting Pool at the National Mall. This installation will coincide with celebrations across the country for the 250th Anniversary of the United States.

With an estimated 20,000 participants nationwide, AIM Center is proud to be the only organization representing the mental health community in this project. 🧡

We had a wonderful time last week at the Chattanooga One Stop Shop Job & Resource Fair, hosted by the TN Department of Correction!

Several of our members and staff were there sharing all things AIM Center, connecting people with resources like Clubhouse membership, housing support, connected care, and supported employment, while also building relationships with other community agencies doing incredible work.

Our members especially enjoy these opportunities to get out into the community, connect with others, and share more about what we do and how we can support others, too!

Ruby recently celebrated 24 years as a member of AIM Center Clubhouse. 🧡

From her very first day, she was welcomed in, quickly jumped into administrative work, and found comfort in the work-ordered day and a strong sense of purpose. Over the years, she has built skills in data entry and computer programming, contributed across the Clubhouse, and even discovered a creative outlet through art.

What keeps Ruby coming back is the community and connection she has found. Today, she supports new members, encourages others, and leads with compassion. As she says, “AIM Center changed my life for a better life. It gave me a purpose.”

What sets AIM Center apart from other behavioral health facilities is that we are a non-clinical, psychosocial rehabilitation program. The people we serve are members, not clients or patients, and they are valued members of a vibrant community focused on mental health recovery.

Some members value the routine and sense of community the Clubhouse provides. It is a safe space to connect with peers, share a meal, and take part in the work-ordered day. Others come to build the skills and confidence they need to re-engage in the community and achieve their personal goals.

Everyone’s reason for coming is different, but what we all share is a deep appreciation for the Clubhouse and this community of recovery. There is a place for you here, too! To learn more, visit: https://aimcenterinc.org/membership/

The work ordered day at the Clubhouse is what you make it. It can be structured, meaningful, and even fun! 😄

At AIM Center, members come in each day to work toward their personal goals while participating in the daily operations that keep the Clubhouse running. This is truly a member-driven space, which means showing up, contributing, and taking shared ownership of the community.

That work can take many forms. It might be sanitizing tables and doorknobs, helping in the café, filming AIM TV episodes, running attendance, giving tours, or even serving on AIM Center’s Board of Directors. No matter the role, members are empowered to choose how they engage and contribute in ways that feel meaningful to them.

This shared work brings energy to the Clubhouse. Beyond keeping things running, it helps members build skills, confidence, and momentum toward their goals in the broader community.

We sure feel lucky here at the Clubhouse! 🍀

Today, we spent the day celebrating St. Patrick’s Day at our all-day social, and it was such a great time. These all-day socials are always a welcome chance to relax, connect, enjoy some good food, and simply spend time with one another.

In case you didn’t know, socials are a core part of the Clubhouse model. When we’re not hard at work during the Work-Ordered Day, socials give us a chance to come together, have fun, and build community. We have socials on weeknights, weekends, and even on holidays just like today!

We hope everyone had fun! And for members who haven’t joined one yet, be sure to come to the Social Planning Meeting this Friday, March 20th at 12:30 PM to help plan even more fun socials like this one. 🙂

Talk about an impactful Day on the Hill!

We are incredibly grateful to Tennessee Association of Mental Health Organizations - TAMHO for the opportunity to participate in Advocacy Day on the Hill in Nashville yesterday. During our visit to the Capitol, AIM Center members and staff met with legislators from our districts to highlight the critical role our Clubhouse plays in mental health recovery for our community.

We want to extend a special thank you to all of the Representatives and Senators who took time from their busy schedules to meet with us, listen to personal stories of impact, and learn more about the essential services and sense of community that AIM Center provides.

Collaboration is at the heart of the Clubhouse model, with members and staff working side by side both within our Clubhouse and beyond. Engaging directly with legislators is no exception, and we are proud to have been part of such an important day of advocacy.

In honor of Women's History Month, AIM Center is celebrating the voices, experiences, and contributions of women within our community. 🧡

Women’s history is rich, impactful, and deeply personal. This month, we’re inviting members of our community to share what Women’s History Month means to them. For some, that may look like reflecting on personal experiences. For others, it may mean highlighting women who have inspired them or sharing stories of women whose impact deserves to be recognized and celebrated.

When people feel comfortable sharing their stories and perspectives, it helps build a stronger, more connected community where recovery and wellness are possible for everyone. Throughout March, we’ll be sharing reflections and stories from voices within our Clubhouse as we celebrate women and their lasting contributions.

As Clubhouse Movement Celebration Week comes to a close, we’ve spent some meaningful time together as a community reflecting on what Clubhouse means to all of us.

Some have shared that it is a safe space where they can truly be themselves and focus on their recovery. Others have talked about the meaningful friendships they have built here that mean so much to them. Many members also noted that Clubhouse is a place where they can continue working toward and achieving their goals.

While everyone has their own reasons for loving this place and showing up every day, one thing we can all agree on is how much we appreciate this space and how grateful we are for Clubhouse.

Thank you to everyone who participated this week!
