The federal court decision on Friday means that certain UT exempt workers should not be moving to non-exempt status and they will keep their leave accrual rate.

With the new overtime rule being struck down nationwide by the federal judge in Texas, and the unlikelihood that the Trump administration will appeal, the UT System will not need to move those exempt workers making less than the threshold to non-exempt status.

On November 15, 2024, a federal judge in Texas struck down the U.S. Department of Labor’s (DOL) latest attempt to raise the minimum salary thresholds for the Fair Labor Standard Act’s (FLSA) white-collar overtime exemption, finding that the rule exceeded the agency’s statutory authority.
