Thanks to our hardworking Pediatric Trauma staff and our generous community partners, you can now pick up a free gun lock at any Erlanger Emergency Room. Using a gun lock is an easy, effective way to prevent firearm accidents, especially among young children. Help us spread the word!

VolunTEEN season is here! 😎 😎 😎

Our six-week VolunTEEN Program gives motivated high school students (ages 15–18) hands-on experience in both clinical and non-clinical areas in one of the region's most dynamic healthcare environments. For many participants, the program confirms their passion for pursuing a career in medicine.

Interviews start in April! Review the program details and fill out an application using the link below! Applications are submitted during the in-person interview.

We wish Liz a restful, joyful retirement!

Liz Appling has been a cornerstone at Erlanger for more than 30 years, and as our Senior Director & Diversity Officer, has championed many initiatives that have improved how we care for our patients and support our workforce.

A few of her accomplishments:
✨ Expanded our Language Services program to accommodate 200 languages through on-site interpreters, video remote interpreting, and language phones
✨ Led groundbreaking Supplier Diversity efforts, ensuring that over 23% of contractors for the Erlanger East expansion were minority, women, and veteran-owned businesses
✨ Cultivated workplace diversity through mentorship programs, including coordinating the THA Internship Program for Minority Students since 2007 and launching the Diversity TEEN Internship Program

We're grateful to her stellar leadership both at and beyond Erlanger!

A perfect ending to American Heart Month!

Erlanger leaders attended American Heart Association - Tennessee's Chattanooga Heart Ball. The ball helps raise funds to improve heart health locally, including expanding CPR education and access to nutrient-dense foods in lower income areas.

Erlanger cardiologist Dr. Harish Manyam and Erlanger CEO Jim Coleman serve as president and member, respectively, of the AHA Chattanooga Board of Directors.

Our final spotlight is Jevon Stringer, a registered nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) at Erlanger Baroness Hospital. Jevon is proud to be part of a cooperative team, where he provides care to patients with a variety of ailments. Jevon talks about his admiration for one of the greatest boxers of all time (iykyk) and the power of exercise to drastically improve quality of life. 💪

Black History is coming to a close, but the stories don’t end here. We look forward to telling stories of staff who compassionately care for people all year round. ❤️

Erlanger Neurology broke a sweat raising money at ’s 10th annual Pedaling for Parkinson’s event.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive disorder of the nervous system that affects about 1 million people in the United States. The primary symptom is a progressive loss of motor control, first manifesting as tremors, stiffness, or slowing of movement. However, there are many non-motor symptoms as well.

While there is no cure for the disorder, research has shown that people with Parkinson’s who cycle regularly can reduce their symptoms by up to 35%. Ride on! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️🚴

Today we had the opportunity to thank Congressman Fleischmann for his assistance in securing funding to support our Pediatric Abuse and Advocacy Resource Center. We are just one part of a network of pediatric care that works to keep our children safe. These funds will help to support important services that our community needs.

Thank you Congressman Fleischmann!
