neuroBridge LLC We are pediatric OT’s helping children succeed! We know you love your children. We can’t always see sensory processing disorder. Your time is precious.

We realize how stressful the demands of school can be on a child who struggles in the classroom, on the playground or at home. Most of the time, parents struggle to identify what the problem is or how to give it a name. It can happen in the quiet child that rarely breaks the rules or in the child that never stops moving. We can provide answers and help your child succeed. We can identify learning glitches and treat your child in the very environment where they struggle the most. Their time is moving fast. NeuroBridge will take away the hassle of rushing to another appointment, allowing you to spend that time completing the things that you need to do. We evaluate your child’s handwriting, balance, coordination, reflex integration, and sensory processing. We give you written and verbal communication and a treatment plan. We can communicate with your child’s teacher and make recommendations in the classroom. Bring a smile to your child’s face. Build their confidence with neuroBridge.

This past week a few members of our nB team had the opportunity to attend the conference in Chicago. Our big takeaway:

“Teaching about the social world is to | EMPOWER | social learners to meet their own social goals based on their own starting place.”

We accomplish this by helping students:
* ATTEND to the social world around them
* INTERPRET that social information
* PROBLEM SOLVE using that information
* RESPOND in a way that helps them meet their goals

We are so excited to incorporate this Social Thinking methodology into our practice using NEW tools for teaching your students to navigate the social world around them!

Karen is one of ’s SLPs (speech-language pathologists). In her practices, she focuses on SEL (social-emotional learning).

Pictured is a task she worked on with a child that demonstrates when the size of the problem = the size of the reaction, the people around feel comfortable and that comes back (to me) in a positive way!

Problem-solving doesn’t come naturally to most children, but developing ways to solve problems positively is a strength everyone needs in their toolbox.

Why should you read aloud to your kiddos?

1️⃣ Models fluid reading
2️⃣ Encourages communication skills
3️⃣ Bonding + relaxation

Reading aloud to children combines the practice of speaking, reading and listening. Reading and speaking together speeds up a child’s ability to recognize words, comprehend sentence structures, and grasp the overall meaning of the text.

By reading out loud, you help develop your child’s listening skills, intonation and speech patterns which are all helpful for them as they grow to be fluent readers. You also spend quality time with your child and create a relaxing environment for their bodies to grow, learn, and be creative.

And if you’re looking for some extra credit 😉, reading aloud helps to build vocabulary, improves listening skills, encourages empathy, allows for imagination collaboration, encourages a love for reading, improves working memory + comprehension, and promotes critical thinking.

If we could encourage you to implement one thing into your child’s daily routine (at any age), it would be to read aloud to them!

Our Empowerment Coach, Rachel, works with a group of 1st graders (the WeeThinkers) regularly. Here is a plan for a session as she works to develop their self-awareness, social problem solving, and perspective taking.

Keeping your body in the group sends a nonverbal message that you’re interested in what others are saying and following the group plan. She demonstrated this by showing the Lego man not in the group and the Lego man in the group.

Everyone learns differently!

Our Empowerment Coach, Rachel, is helping a student identify her learning preferences so they can apply it to her learning. They’re working together to match learning styles to corresponding preferences to learn about the styles.

In the end, she identified as a visual learner! This can help her parents, teachers, and anyone else on her learning team in equipping her with ways to take in knowledge that benefit her.

What makes each of us different is what makes us beautiful 👏🏼

The words we use to describe ourselves (and especially our children) MATTER. Let’s strive to use more appropriate and affirming language in our homes, offices, classrooms, and on social media.

Did you know that practicing taking instructions and making checklists are things we can help your child with?

Checklists are a great tool to make sure you have everything required for a big assignment like a research project, but can also help in the household as well.

We love to see the use of a visual countdown timer too.

Our Empowerment Coach, Rachel, leads a pre-k boys group. Pictured here are the boys practicing following the group’s plan. Their plan involved a regulation activity (GoNoodle Melting) to get the body calm after recess, and reading a story about following the group plan.

The tide is turning! Twenty two states now require cursive handwriting. While technology evolves, let’s not forget the enduring benefits of pen and paper for deeper learning and understanding.

Did you grow up learning cursive handwriting? Do you still use it? Have your kids learned it?

Happy Valentine’s Day 💘

Check out this fun craft-ivity by our OT, Lizzie!

The student worked on their grip strength by squeezing paper towel roll into a heart shape with paint. Also weaved into this fun activity is visual motor integration, fine motor coordination, and bilateral integration!

Our neuroBridge therapists love to have fun!!
