Most people think recovery starts with motivation.

It doesn’t.

It starts with stability.

Structure.
Consistent clinical care.
Predictable routines.
A safe environment where the brain and body can reset.

When those pieces are in place, something powerful happens.

Momentum.

Small wins become bigger ones.
Trust starts to rebuild.
Progress begins to stack.

Recovery rarely begins with certainty.

But with the right structure, it can begin.

Behind every recovery journey is a team that helps rebuild trust with food.

Today we’re celebrating Registered Dietitian Day and recognizing the incredible work of our dietitians here at Focus Courtney and Jenny.

Eating disorder recovery isn’t just about meals.
It’s about restoring health, rebuilding relationships with food, and helping people find peace in their daily lives again.

Our dietitians walk alongside patients through that process every day with compassion, knowledge, and patience.

We’re grateful for the care they provide and the difference they make for the individuals and families we serve.

Thank you for helping people rediscover nourishment, balance, and hope.

Today is National Registered Dietitian Day during National Nutrition Month — a time to recognize the important role dietitians play in eating disorder recovery.

If food feels difficult right now, support can help. Our team works with individuals to rebuild nourishment, stabilize health, and support long-term recovery.

Most people don’t realize where recovery actually begins.

It doesn’t start in a therapy room.
It often starts with a phone call.

For many individuals and families, that call happens during one of the most overwhelming moments of their lives.

That’s why Dan Presbitero and our admissions team approach every conversation with compassion, clinical insight, and respect.

As Director of Admissions at Focus, Dan helps guide those first steps toward the right level of care, making sure people feel heard, understood, and supported from the very beginning.

Because recovery doesn’t start when someone walks through our doors.

It starts the moment someone decides to reach out for help.

Eating disorders and substance use rarely tell the same story.

But when they show up together, treatment becomes more complex.

At Focus, our admissions team looks at the whole picture before someone ever walks through the door.

Substance use history.
Eating disorder patterns.
Mental health.
Medical stability.
Family support.

Because no two people arrive here the same way.
The front door of treatment should reflect that.

Integrated care starts with understanding the whole person.

When someone reaches out for help timing really matters.

That is why behind the scenes, Annie works closely with our clinical team to make sure referrals are reviewed quickly and carefully so providers and families are not left waiting when decisions matter most.

This month we are highlighting integrated care and admissions, and the truth is that good treatment starts long before someone walks through the door.

It starts with listening and collaboration. Annie helps make that happen every day.

If you are a provider with a complex case or a family needing help our team is here to help guide the process.

Recovery places real physical demands on the body.

When someone is healing from an eating disorder, substance use, or other mental health challenges, consistent nutrition helps support brain function, immune response, hormone balance, and tissue repair.

Adequate intake is not just about energy. It helps stabilize mood, concentration, sleep, and overall recovery.

Not every call results in an admission.

And that does not mean it did not matter.

Sometimes the most important thing we offer is a conversation without judgment.

A reminder that recovery is possible.
A reminder that help is available.
A reminder that they are not alone.

Seeds get planted in those moments.
And sometimes those seeds change everything.

That first call takes courage.

It might be the hardest step in the entire recovery journey.

Our admissions team knows that these conversations are emotional. Raw. Vulnerable.

They assess history.
They collaborate with our clinical and medical team.
They move with urgency when someone is ready.

Because momentum matters.
The beginning of treatment is not paperwork.

It is hope.

The 2026 East Tennessee Opioid Conference did not disappoint.

So many meaningful conversations. So many familiar faces. So much shared commitment to doing this work well.

Events like this remind us that recovery in East Tennessee is not a solo effort. It is providers, clinicians, advocates, and community partners all pushing in the same direction.

And yes, it was also great to reconnect with old friends. Alex was there and it felt like a full-circle moment being in the room together again.

Grateful to be part of a community that keeps showing up for people struggling with opioid use.

Let’s keep building.

Most people never see this part of treatment.

Before someone ever walks through our doors, they talk to Dan and his team.

When that phone rings, the person on the other end is often scared, exhausted, or unsure if they even deserve help.

Dan’s role is simple and powerful.
Listen without judgment.
Move quickly when timing matters.
Make sure each person is placed in the right level of care.

Recovery does not start on day one of treatment.
It starts with someone answering the phone and saying, “You are not alone.”

Blue. Green. Cupcakes. 😄💙💚

Yes, we take eating disorder awareness seriously.
Yes, we also take our cupcake poses seriously.

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week is about education, advocacy, and support but it’s also about people. Real people who care deeply about the work and each other.

This team shows up every day for our patients and showed support for our Blue & Green Day at Focus.
Occasionally they show up…just for frosting.

Awareness weeks matter.
But what matters more is what happens the other 51 weeks of the year.

We will keep showing up.
Keep listening.
Keep fighting for freedom from eating disorders.
