The holidays have a way of bringing us back into old rooms, old roles, and old expectations. Give yourself permission to arrive honestly. No performing. No shrinking. No pretending.

Just you—exactly as you are.

You are enough.

We had a little surprise guest in staff meeting today… PUPPIES!! 🐶💛

Nothing brightens the day quite like tiny paws and wagging tails. Therapy dogs remind us how powerful simple connection and comfort can be.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that follows a seasonal pattern — most commonly appearing during the fall and winter months when daylight decreases. 🌧️💤
Recognizing the symptoms can help you understand what your mind and body might be trying to tell you:

Common Symptoms of SAD:

• Persistent low or sad mood
• Loss of interest or pleasure in activities
• Feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness
• Oversleeping
• Craving carbohydrates or overeating
• Weight gain
• Social withdrawal or “hibernating”
• Low energy or feeling sluggish

SAD affects about 5% of adults and is more common for those living farther from the equator. If these symptoms feel familiar, you’re not alone — and support is available. 💛

Mindfulness isn’t about “clearing your mind.”

It’s about learning to notice what’s happening inside you with less judgment and more compassion.

Here’s why it helps ⤵️

• Reduces stress: Calms the nervous system and lowers emotional reactivity.
• Improves focus: Helps you stay grounded instead of getting lost in spirals.
• Builds emotional awareness: Makes it easier to notice what you’re feeling before it becomes overwhelming.
• Supports trauma healing: Creates space between a trigger and your response.
• Strengthens self-compassion: Teaches your brain to pause, breathe, and respond with kindness.

Mindfulness is a skill — not perfection.
Start with 1–2 minutes a day.
Your future self will thank you 💛

Meredith Rivera, M.A., LPC-MHSP is sharing a worksheet designed to help clients understand and move through difficult emotions. This tool is perfect for moments when emotions feel heavy, confusing, or frozen. It guides clients in noticing, naming, and working through the experience instead of battling it alone. 💛

As Meredith says:
“Something I tell my clients with this resource is that the purpose is not necessarily to formulate emotions in attempt to control them but this resource identifies steps to engage in and can provide a sense of empowerment in understanding how to experience and process the complexities of the emotions, especially when feeling ‘stuck’ in whatever the emotions are.”

Ever wonder why OCD feels like a never-ending loop?

OCD often follows a predictable cycle that can feel impossible to break — but understanding the pattern is the first step toward change.

Callie Kell, MA, LPC-MHSP, one of our counselors who works with OCD, shares her take on the cycle of OCD.

“This is a graphic I often use in sessions to help clients see what keeps OCD going.

The cycle usually looks something like this:
1️⃣ Trigger – something sparks an intrusive thought or worry.
2️⃣ Overestimation of Threat – the mind interprets the thought as dangerous or highly significant.
3️⃣ Spike in Anxiety – distress and urgency build quickly.
4️⃣ Compulsion – behaviors or mental rituals are used to reduce the anxiety.
5️⃣ Short-Term Relief – the anxiety drops for a bit, but the brain learns that compulsions “work,” which makes the cycle stronger over time and creates higher anxiety as the cycle continues and builds.”

Learning to recognize this pattern is a powerful step toward breaking free from it. With support, new tools, and practice, healing is possible. 💙

💙 What Is OCD? 💙

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) involves a cycle of obsessions and compulsions that can feel distressing and hard to control.

🌀 Obsessions are intrusive, unwanted thoughts, images, or urges that cause anxiety or discomfort.
Examples:
• “What if I hurt someone without meaning to?”
• “Did I lock the door?”
• “What if I get sick from touching that?”

🔁 Compulsions are the behaviors or mental acts a person feels driven to do to relieve that anxiety or prevent something bad from happening.
Examples:
• Repeatedly checking or washing
• Seeking reassurance
• Counting, praying, or reviewing thoughts until they feel “just right”

While compulsions might bring temporary relief, they often keep the OCD cycle going — which is why professional support and evidence-based therapy (like ERP: Exposure and Response Prevention) are so effective.

✨ OCD is treatable, and hope is real.
Understanding the cycle is the first step toward breaking it.

Today is World Mental Health Day — a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health.

Let’s continue to reduce stigma, create space for honest conversations, and remind one another that healing is possible.

🧠 It’s okay to ask for help.
💬 It’s okay to need rest.
💚 You are not alone.

✨ Su***de Prevention: Remember to WAIT ✨

💡 A simple way to support someone who may be struggling is to remember W.A.I.T.

W – Watch out for signs of distress and changes in behaviour.
A – Ask directly: “Are you having suicidal thoughts?”
I – It will pass. Reassure them that, with help, suicidal feelings can pass.
T – Talk to others. Encourage reaching out to a therapist, or crisis line.

You don’t need all the answers. Just listening, asking, and staying present can save a life. 💙
