At University Diabetes & Endocrine Consultants we offer clinical research participation in studies of new treatments for diabetes and related disorders. Joining a research study helps discover the true nature of new diabetes treatments and helping us understand their best uses before they become generally available. Participants receive a stipend and related care during the study, with authority to change or discontinue participation for any reason. We believe that helping in a study should benefit you, or we'll take a different path.

We are also participating in studies of a weight loss medication in people who have Type 2 diabetes mellitus and a history of cardiovascular disease such as a propr heart attack or stroke, or peripheral arterial disease.

We're fortunate to help with a clinical study of a monoclonal antibody treatment to reduce inflammation and hopefully improve atherosclerosis in people with a history of cardiovascular disease such as heart attack, stroke or peripheral arterial disease.

If you are interested in learning more about these studies, please call us at 423-265-3561.

We are participating in a study of insulin pump and sensor treatment in people with type 2 diabetes who take multiple dose insulin treatment using novolog or humalog insulins at meals. If you would like to try a patch pump with automated glucose control, please call us at 423-265-3561.

Thanks for your interest and participation. We don't update this page at the present time because working with people and their endocrine issues demands that our computer time be spent researching pathophysiology and treatments. Our providers and educators can be reached by phone or through our patient portal, or by email or fax. We will post, blog and podcast as time and resources become available. Meanwhile we're working for your health and wellness in the real world.

Coronavirus Emergency Procedures

University Diabetes & Endocrine Consultants will remain open during the current emergency. Our office adheres to CDCP guidelines for virus remediation, and for patients unable to come to the office, we are arranging for virtual visits for routine and some emergency care. Call or contact us on the portal for further information or appointments. We recommend procuring medication for at least one month ahead, and will assist as needed.
Remember, we may not have complete control over infection, but we can refuse to yield our health to it.

For our patients with diabetes:
We understand that many of our patients may be fearful of viral infection, with media reports of increased risk to people with diabetes. For persons with very poor blood glucose control, mortality risk is increased for any viral infection, including influenza. Better control of diabetes reduces risk from any infection. Stress can affect glucose control, so don't ruminate or let depression or anxiety persist...get help from us or from family or useful work. Movement helps, so try to stay active even if quarantined. Better understanding usually conquers fear. Use the buttons below to learn about the current virus issue, and contact us for any help you may need to improve glucose control.
We'll get through this together.
