To be able to inspire your children… there is nothing like it.
Athena genuinely enjoys working out. She’ll be in her room challenging herself with push-ups, wall sits, crunches just seeing what she’s capable of. In PE class she pushes herself to do all her push-ups off her knees (and there is absolutely nothing wrong with doing them on your knees). She just loves to challenge herself.
Last night she came out so excited telling us how many she got. Then she said one of her friends asked her, “Why are you so good at push-ups?”
And she goes,
“Well, my mom is a personal trainer and she’s always worked out with us… so I think it’s just in my genes.” 🤣✌🏽
And listen… I know she’s proud of her daddy too. But hearing her feel strong because of ME? That hit different.
I grew up hating my body. Shoot even in adulthood I struggled with it. So to see my daughter want to be strong not because she wants to be small, but because she wants to be capable, powerful, and confident that does something to my heart.
Peep that last video. I love seeing how far I’ve come from being so tiny, to building muscle, to learning proper form myself. But the main thing I love? Seeing myself through Athena’s eyes.
All she saw was herself having fun with her mama.
All she heard was “up, down, up, down.”
She didn’t see a mom who didn’t like her body.
That right there is everything.
It reminds me that I do hard things not just for me… but for them.
Breaking cycles.
Breaking trauma.
Building strength in more ways than one.
