Special Thank You - Chelan High School Building Class

These young men put in the hard work of 851 screws, nuts and bolts and then delivered and installed my new cabinet at the Lake Chelan Health & Wellness Foundation office, in the lower level of the chamber building. And of course, to make it fit just right, they had to move my 300 # desk 4". Good work guys and thank you to their teacher, Jason Sanderson. And then, a well-deserved cup of coffee afterwords.

Members of the Lake Chelan Health & Wellness Foundation were on had to help celebrate the groundbreaking of the new Emergency Medical Services building this week. It’s been “50 years” in the making and time for some additional space. The new building will also allow for housing for EMS staff and offices for hospital staff too. There will additionally be a large conference/meeting room for other uses, as in teaching opportunities in CPR and classes for incoming employees.

One of our newest scholarship recipients. Henry Elsner:

At the beginning of August I received my white coat, marking the beginning of my study of medicine and the next chapter of my life! Health care seems to be a trend in my family, with my aunt and grandma in nursing, an uncle in surgery, and my sister looking to PA school. I grew up around medicine - my dad as a PA and my mom as a nurse, both for almost 30 years! I’m excited to continue the tradition and it was wonderful to have them all here to celebrate this first and significant step! Entering Columbia this month.

Brisa Venegas will be at Wenatchee Valley College, studying to be a sonographer. A Sonographer is an allied healthcare professional who specializes in the use of ultrasonic imaging devices to produce diagnostic images, scans, videos or three-dimensional volumes of anatomy and diagnostic data.
Van Keough-Michaels is heading to the islands to study Physical Therapy. He will be at the University of Hawai’i at Manoa on the island of Oahu. Established in 1907, the University of Hawai’i Manoa is the largest of the 10 UH campuses. UH of Manoa is a research university of international standing.
Andrea Rodriguez-Fernández is heading a little closer to home to Wenatchee Valley College, she too is going into the field of Sonography. Andrea is hoping to transfer into radiology down the road and is open to many other opportunities in the medical field.
Genesis Torres is going to pursue a degree in Health Sciences from the University of Washington, but as of last week she is transferring her college address to Stanford University in California. Genesis’s first step is general health sciences, but her end goal is to become an orthopedic surgeon.
Jacqueline Mendoza Cardenas is off close to home to Wenatchee Valley College. She will be working for a degree in Pediatric Nursing. Jacqueline has been an inspiration to those that know her having adapted to nine homes and 7 school districts before she turned 11 has given her real skill at seeing childhood in many different situations. Her goal in pediatrics will be treasured by all those that are gifted to work with her.
Emma England is heading off to Brigham Young University to follow the educational steps of several family members. Her choice of study will be nursing. With a goal of being a Pedeatric Nurse someday. These four are headed into the medical field with help from our LCHWF scholarships.
From left to right: Shantell Bissell, Lydia Peterson, Chloe Desgroseillier and Peyton Baker

These four incredible young women have decided to go into the healthcare fields. The Lake Chelan Health & Wellness Foundation is happy to participate in their educational journeys.
Shantell Bissell will be attending Wenatchee Valley College in the fall studying Radiology. After earning her associate’s degree in Radiology, Shantell plans to then pursue a career in Diagnostic Medical Sonography.
Lydia Peterson is traveling down to San Jose State University in beautiful sunny California to pursue a career in Social Work. After San Jose she plans an undergraduate degree and then a Masters. Helping people navigate physical and mental health issues is paramount and being a part of the solution is a great way to do that.
Chloe Desgroseillier is heading southeast to Northwest Nazarene University outside of Boise, Idaho to study Psychology. Chloe’s hope (and plan) is to become a Child Life Specialist or Child Psychologist. We look forward to having her back here in our valley to work with our youth.
Peyton Baker is going to Wenatchee Valley College to work on her degree in Radiology. Although Peyton is sticking closer to home, she will still need to put in many hours of study time. Peyton, as a young leader in the 4H program, also works tirelessly in the FFA. Her efforts in these volunteer fields will prove her commitment to becoming a Radiologist.
We are very proud of all our scholarship recipients and look forward to hearing about their first-year adventures.
