Confession: I do not “power through” sensory overload.
I stim through it. 😅
These two fidgets live on my desk, in my bag, and sometimes in my coat pocket like emotional support objects.
🟢 Magnetic silicone balls
Perfect for when my brain needs pressure + movement at the same time. Pulling them apart, snapping them back together, rolling them in my hands. It’s regulating without requiring thought, which is exactly what my nervous system wants when I’m overloaded.
🔴 Little Ouchies
Tiny. Spiky. Surprisingly grounding. They give just enough tactile input to bring me back into my body when I’m dissociating, anxious, or overstimulated. Not painful. Just… clarifying.
This is your reminder that:
• sensory needs don’t disappear in adulthood
• regulation is not a reward, it’s a requirement
• using tools doesn’t mean something is “wrong” with you
• and yes, professionals need sensory support too
Normalize supporting your nervous system before it hits DEFCON 1.
What’s your go-to fidget right now?
