North Suffolk Community Services

North Suffolk Community Services NSCS is a community health organization offering behavioral health and recovery services.

Founded by private citizens of East Boston, Chelsea, Winthrop, and Revere, Massachusetts in 1959, North Suffolk Mental Health began with a mission of providing mental health services to individuals, and especially children, in these relatively under-served communities. It operated first as a Child Guidance Center in 1963, then grew into a Community Mental Health Center from the 1960’s through the 1970’s as Federal and State policies provided less institutional care and more support for community-based services. North Suffolk continued to grow in the number and types of services through the 1980s and 1990s to become one of the largest providers in the state. Today, North Suffolk Mental Health touches the lives of more than 10,000 people a year. Our staff of 900 assists families, children and individuals in 4 clinics, 38 residences and 74 programs.

When Conexions Day Treatment clients were asked “what home means to you,” many said Conexions feels like home. Together, group members created this “Conexions town” mural representing the community, with each client contributing their own representation of home! Each piece reflects an individual perspective, yet the collective mural emphasizes connection, community, and shared space, reinforcing the idea that clients are not only part of the community, but are the ones who actively build it. They also included elements of what they are grateful for within the community, such as coffee, which symbolizes opportunities for connection and shared moments with others.
