We've restocked some bulk herbs and also made some new ones available!

THYME - We neatly harvest this beautiful culinary herb with our clippers until it looks like a mouse's boxwood hedge. The scent fills the air, fills the baskets, fills the dryer, and it's hard not to start dreaming up recipes for dinner that night that include fresh thyme!

PASSIONFLOWER - Into the high tunnel we go to cut and unwind this abundant vine from its trellis. We harvest passionflower twice per season while it is in flower, and constantly stop to marvel at the mind-boggling beauty of the blossoms. We've even grown handfuls of passionFRUITS the past few years!

LADY'S MANTLE - We will never forget the image of Rosemary Gladstar drinking morning dew from the leaf of this beautiful plant during a course with her at Sage Mountain. Take advantage of this NEW! herbal offering from our farm, as organic Lady's Mantle is very hard to source!

ARNICA - This beautiful plant is famous for its muscle-soothing qualities. We harvest it relatively early in the season, plucking the small, dandelion-like blooms into our baskets, often working on our knees due to the low-growing nature of this beautiful plant. Please note that arnica is not meant for internal use!

Our herbal CSA offerings make an amazing gift—for a loved one, or for yourself! We have begun putting together our upcoming Spring Share & would love to send one your way. These shares will be attuned to the unique needs & wants of SPRING—a bubbling up of energy, a (muddy) moment of transition, a time to open up & clear out!

Join our crew of hard-working,
herb-loving folx on our small farm in Vermont!

Field crew positions at Free Verse Farm provide the opportunity to experience first-hand what it takes to cultivate, tend, harvest, dry, and process a wide range of culinary, medicinal, and tea herbs on a small organic hill farm in rural Vermont.

This outdoor work is rigorous and joyful, and we feel extremely fortunate to be able to participate in it. Our farm is largely people-powered, and we care deeply about cultivating both healthy soils and a healthy workplace.

Alongside our returning crew members, we have a few spaces available for new farmers. If you're interested in working outdoors and learning about the life cycle of herbs, we invite you to apply!

Applications are open until positions are filled. We look forward to meeting you!

The ideal field crew member:

🌱 Is a hard worker who enjoys manual labor
🌱 Is flexible, patient, and detail-oriented
🌱 Is comfortable working alone, as well as in a group
🌱 Has a positive attitude and a team mentality
🌱 Has a dedicated interest in farming and/or herbs
🌱 Has previous farming experience (not required, but strongly recommended)
🌱 Likes being outdoors in all weather
🌱 Has a desire to learn more about growing food & medicine for our community in Vermont

Wow, so much happened last year! Especially with all the turmoil of the past year globally, we want to express our great gratitude for your continuing support of our small family business. Community is at the heart of our work, and it fills our hearts with such satisfaction every time someone places an online order, stops in to hang out, gets some tea/treats/provisions, or buys a big bag of herbs to play around with at home. As the December cold sets in on the farm — and we busy ourselves indoors in the apothecary — we find ourselves thinking back on the season that was. While the drought that took over in August leaves perhaps the strongest memory weather-wise, it’s easy to forget how wet and lush the first half of the season was. Exhibit A - milky oats, harvested at the tail end of July, provided us with our most abundant harvest ever.

This wonderful herb appears in formulations for teas like Gentle at Heart and Mirror the Moon, as well as in our Adaptive and Resteasy tincture blends. Of course we also proudly off it in bulk for folks to use however they like!
