What does a 78 year old young lady
And a 18 year old young lady have in common?
This month I was privileged to work with two incredible ladies ...
60 years apart from one another πππ
What did they have in common and made abundantly clear?
We are not taught about our bodies π€·π»ββοΈπ‘
Not because either of them were purposefully oppose to learning
Quite the opposite.
Because it just isn't available or prioritized.
This became abundantly clear while getting my degree.
I LOVED my education. Still incredibly greatful to repairing me to teach.
The drawback?
We taught how to play sports and extracurricular activities.
We never learned how to teach a person HOW to exercise and how our bodies move π€¦π»ββοΈ
Yet exercise is a ridiculously ever growing industry. π€
One that wants you to fail π₯΄
And to keep coming back since YOU and only YOU are the issue.
You do have a part. I do not shy away from accountability and clients needing to have vigorous honesty with themselves.
That being said, we as an industry have made the wrong things important.
* "Feel the burn"
* Faster and faster movement with no emphasis on form, capacity or capability.
* Weight loss being the #1 reason to exercise
* No pain, no gain mentality
* "You're 'kiiling" it
* "Do not quite"
* "LFG" go, go, go...
* "Unless you are sweating π₯΅ you aren't working"
And the list goes on and on.
I'm not saying some of this doesn't have its time and place
It's when this is the ONLY or majority of the intention, do burnout, over working, bad form, and injury happen.
Until one day that 18 year old turns 78 and wonders what happened.
What happened?
An industry meant to be about HEALTH AND WELLNESS, stread you wrong.
Good news!!!!
It doesn't have to be that way. ππ»ππ»ππ»
