This week I had the opportunity to review scholarship applications for the Life Lessons Scholarship Program, and it’s something that truly stayed with me.
Every student who applies for this scholarship has lost a parent. As part of their application, they share their story—what life was like after that loss, and how the absence of life insurance impacted their family’s future.
Reading these stories was emotional. These are young people who had to grow up much faster than they should have. Many talked about the financial stress their families faced while they were also trying to process the grief of losing a parent.
As someone who works in life insurance, it was a powerful reminder that this isn’t just about policies or numbers. It’s about protecting families and making sure that during the worst moments of life, finances aren’t another burden they have to carry.
These students showed incredible strength and resilience, and their stories will stay with me for a long time.
It also reinforced why the work we do matters so much. Life insurance is one of those things people hope they never need—but when it’s not there, the impact can last for years.
