Ray's story...

Delicate surgery made better by dedicated team

Understandably, Ray was apprehensive about his surgery scheduled for the fall of 2025. It was his first time as a patient at Chesapeake Regional, and he was headed in for a prostate procedure with Urologist Dr. Dara Holder. But leading up to the operation, Ray says Dr. Holder earned his utmost confidence and eased his fears by truly listening and keeping him informed about the whole process. Once he was at the hospital, the welcoming comfort continued.

“Through this journey I came in direct contact with over 20 health care workers taking care of me,” he says. “Everyone I encountered was 100% dedicated to care of the highest standards.”

Ray was so impressed by the experience that he took the time to write a letter to the hospital, thanking by name at least a dozen people in roles ranging from the operating room to anesthesia to night nursing and food services he met during his overnight stay.

Our President and CEO, Reese Jackson, had the honor of opening the games and connecting with the 300 participants who gathered for track & field, softball, and tennis competitions.
