Trauma affects how we see ourselves, others, and the world.
When we catch ourselves in negative self thoughts, it's helpful to ask, "would I say this to someone else? Would I allow someone to say this to my friend or my child?"
When we recognize our negative thought patterns we can begin to flip the script from criticism to compassion.
Having self-compassion isn’t about gaslighting yourself and pretending everything is okay when it’s not. It’s noticing what you're going through, giving yourself space to feel it, and responding with kindness and understanding (the way we would with a friend).

If you’re always “on edge,” there’s a reason.
After trauma, we can become hyper aware of our environment and the people in it because this is what it takes to feel safe.
Our brains and our bodies are trying to protect us from experiencing more trauma.
Hypervigilance isn’t anxiety without cause. It’s your body saying, “We’ve seen this before.”
It’s instinct, not imagination, and definitely not overthinking.
The first step in PTSD recovery is understanding our symptoms and giving ourselves grace.
Be patient with yourself.

Difficult emotions like guilt can feel overwhelming, yet they often hold hidden messages. They show us what matters, where we want to do better, and how we can move forward with greater awareness. Embracing guilt as a teacher rather than a burden opens the door to growth.

Some people don’t “look” traumatized.
They look reliable. Productive. Strong.
What you don’t see is the constant effort it takes to stay regulated, polite, and composed while their nervous system stays in survival mode.
They’ve learned to push through, minimize symptoms, and keep going at any cost.
The coping works, until it costs too much.
Burnout, chronic pain, anxiety, exhaustion.
If you’re “high-functioning,” you might feel guilty for struggling at all.
You tell yourself you should be grateful.
You keep going because you always have.
But surviving isn’t the same thing as healing.
And you’re allowed to want more than just getting by.

Social anxiety is more than being shy; it’s a strong fear of being judged or embarrassed around other people that can make everyday situations feel overwhelming and exhausting. If this is you, you’re not broken or “too sensitive” — your brain is stuck in overprotective mode, and you deserve understanding and support. 💙
