Toby here … There will be a lot of analysis from the pundits until the next election regarding what happened last night. But whether or not they say it, a huge part (not the only part) of why things went the way they did yesterday is because our country and our state are embracing abortion more and more.
Unfortunately, people believe the lie that a constitutional right was ripped away from them when Roe was overturned, and they are mad and fighting hard. They are tightening their grip on a perceived right to kill children in utero, which is also called abortion.
Our ministry is dependent on Jesus. One way we express our dependence on Him is by clinging to His Word. We pick verses every year that we will focus and mediate on for a year. Until this time next year, we will be meditating on Deuteronomy 30:19-20.
“I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice and holding fast to him, for he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them.” Deuteronomy 30:19-20 (ESV)
These verses are prophetic for us in this moment. Though I'm a bit tired and disappointed, I'm more saddened. Regardless of who is in office, it's terribly sad to witness our commonwealth strengthen its grip on death and hardens its heart all the more against the Almighty.
The bottom line, as we read Deuteronomy:
To love God is to obey God and be blessed...that is the path to LIFE.
To reject God is to disobey God and be cursed... that is the path to death.
For people who love LIFE, it's easy to get discouraged right now, and there is nothing wrong with a little lament. But take heart! We know this world is a mess, and that is why we need Jesus. It’s going to be hard. However, God didn't call us to comfort. He called us to be salt to hold back death, and light in the deep darkness—that appears a little darker today.
The Lord is our strength, and what we do at CPC is so important. Yesterday, underscores this all the more. I'm incredibly grateful for everyone who is with us! I see God moving through you. Let’s stand firm together and press on in Jesus' name.
