Mother's Day is coming up, and for a lot of families, a holiday visit with Mom is when things become a little clearer. 🌸

If you're spending time with an aging parent soon, here are a few things worth paying attention to:

✔️ Is the house being kept up the way it used to be?
✔️ Are meals being skipped or simplified?
✔️ Are medications being managed consistently?
✔️ Do they seem more isolated or withdrawn than usual?

Noticing these things doesn't mean something is wrong, necessarily. It just means it might be time to explore what a little extra support could look like.

In-home care can make a big difference, and the earlier families start the conversation, the easier it is to have…and the more options you’ll have to talk about.

We're always happy to answer questions and help families figure out next steps.

No pressure, just information.

We are so proud to share that two of our very own caregivers were recognized at last week's Healthcare Warrior Awards hosted by the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce! 🏆

Susan Tamborelli Bone and Shannon Prentiss from our Woodstock office were honored for the incredible dedication they bring to their work every single day. Anyone who has met them knows this recognition is so well deserved.

Assisted Living Home Care Services was proud to serve as Premier Sponsor of this event, because supporting the people who show up for our clients day in and day out is at the heart of everything we do.

Congratulations, Susan and Shannon. You ARE healthcare warriors. 💙

Downsizing an aging parent's home is rarely just about “stuff.”

It's the china set she never uses but can't imagine parting with. It's a garage full of things kept for thirty years, just in case. It's the conversation you keep putting off because you're not sure how to start it without it getting complicated.

But what if you could turn that source of tension into quality time spent together? If that sounds nice but hard to imagine, we'd love for you to join us for our next free webinar...

Assisted Living Home Care Services is hosting a no-cost educational session with trusted expert Sheila Gavish of Amston Home Transition Solutions, to help adult children support aging parents through one of the most emotionally loaded rites of passage among life’s many milestones:

👉 “Helping Aging Parents Downsize With Dignity”

Knowing who’s caring for your aging loved one—and how—can make all of the difference between fear of the unknown and calming peace of mind.

Did you know?: There's a difference between a gerontologist and a geriatrician, and knowing it just might change everything for your loved one’s care.

🗓️ This Wednesday, April 15th at 2pm ET, we're hosting a free workshop to help you get ahead of it:

👉 "What's a Gerontologist, What's a Geriatrician, and What's WOOP for Caregivers?"

You'll learn the difference between two key professionals who can guide you through your loved one’s care, and walk away with WOOP for Caregivers, a simple four-step strategy to help you get clear on what you want for your loved one and start making it happen.

Your guide for the afternoon is Donna Fedus, gerontologist, founder of Borrow My Glasses, and someone who deeply believes that caregiving doesn't have to feel like a tragedy. Her work, including a study conducted in collaboration with Yale University, is all about giving caregivers like you real tools, real clarity, and a little more confidence for the road ahead.

You don't have to have it all figured out. You just have to show up.

Caring for a loved one struggling with PTSD? Hear first-hand from a survivor and a home care expert how to give your loved one the best possible support that they deserve.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) doesn't always look like what you might expect, especially in the veterans you care for. This Wednesday, learn how to see it…and how to help.

Join us on Wednesday, April 8th at 2:00 PM ET for a powerful and personal presentation from one of our own.

“Understanding the Invisible Wounds: Supporting Veterans with PTSD,” presented by John O'Brien, Regional Director – Westport Branch. 🇺🇸

John isn't just an expert in home care. He's a veteran who served with the 1st Cavalry Division in Iraq during Operation New Dawn and lives with PTSD himself. His presentation brings together 13+ years of home care experience, his certification as a Dementia Practitioner, and a deeply personal perspective on what it means to support veterans working to heal invisible wounds.

Whether you're a caregiver, family member, or care professional, this is a session well worth your time!

Introducing Our 2025 Ultimate Platinum Caregiver of the Year: Landy Dawu 🏆

We are so proud to present Landy with our highest honor, the Ultimate Platinum Caregiver Award.

Landy has been part of our Assisted Living Home Care Services family since 2019, and in that time, she has earned our Platinum Caregiver Award not once, but twice!

This year, she reached a milestone that reflects everything we stand for: years of consistent excellence, deep compassion, and an unwavering dedication to the clients and families she serves.

Landy shows up fully.

She takes the time to understand each client's needs and preferences, remains present during their most vulnerable moments, and steps in immediately when it matters most. Her reliability, professionalism, and genuine warmth create the kind of stability that families can truly count on.

Her impact goes well beyond daily care. Landy builds trust. She becomes a meaningful part of the family. She offers real peace of mind to loved ones, even those caring from a distance, knowing their family member is in the most capable, caring hands.

As one family shared, her presence made it possible to feel confident and at ease, no matter how far away they were.

Landy, your kindness, work ethic, and commitment to excellence are an inspiration to our entire team. Thank you for embodying the heart of our mission every single day. We are so honored to celebrate you! 💙

Congratulations, Landy! 👏

Most family caregivers find out about this program when they're already exhausted. And the majority of families who qualify have never heard of it. That oversight can be passing up an opportunity for thousands of dollars in reimbursements.

You rearranged your life to keep your parent home. Maybe your job. Your schedule. Your finances. You're doing the work every single day — you just didn't know Connecticut has been paying family members to do exactly what you're already doing.

The Adult Family Living program pays a **tax-free stipend of over $500 per week** to family caregivers who provide care for an elderly loved one at home. It's been available since 2013.

When you enroll through Assisted Living Home Care Services, one of our registered nurses comes to your home — meets with you and your family member, assesses what care is needed, and provides the training and ongoing support to make sure you never feel like you're figuring this out alone.

Our Director of the AFL Program, Julie Ann Cruz, RN, sat down with Allison Demers on The River 105.9 this week to walk through how the program actually works — who qualifies, what the assessment looks like, and what happens when families stop carrying this alone.

If you're caring for an elderly parent or grandparent at home in Connecticut, this is 12 minutes worth your time.

There's a moment a lot of adult children know. What they don’t often know is what to do next.

You're visiting your parent and something feels a little off. Maybe the house is harder for them to keep up. Maybe you noticed them moving more carefully on the stairs. Maybe nothing specific happened…you just left with a heaviness you couldn't quite shake.

If that sounds familiar, we'd love for you to join us for a free educational session…

Assisted Living Home Care Services is hosting a no-cost educational webinar with trusted expert Kathleen Moniello, MBA, SRES, CAPS, Realtor and President of Forevermore Homes, LLC — to help adult children navigate one of the hardest questions a family can face:

👉 Is this home still the right place for my parent?

Because when families feel informed and supported, fear and uncertainty are replaced with confidence, calm, and the peace of mind that comes with knowing you're doing right by someone you love.
