“I am a 25 year old female with optic atrophy and have been a patient of Dr. Siwoff’s since I was a teenager. He has not only helped me reach my full visual potential, but he has also treated me like family along the way and...helped change my life for the better!”
This amazing young woman has just won a coveted and famous national fellowship and grant, the one received by mostly famous achievers. She received the award in order to prove that a “visually-impaired” (read that “victoriously challenged”) individual can be fully independent and accomplish many “impossible” goals. Here she is, when she got to live with lions in Africa, just one of her dreams realized. Next year she will return to Africa to teach English to schoolchildren.

Abby always had trouble seeing. She was severely visually impaired. . Conventional eye care treatment gave her limited vision, but her mom kept looking for someone to help her daughter succeed in school. Six years ago, as a young teenager, Abby came to Dr. Siwoff. As soon as she tried on her trial lenses, she says: "I was shocked. I learned what I was missing. I could see straight ahead." Abby went on to finish tech school, and last year she graduated with a certificate in Food Services. She did so well that she was honored by being asked to give the valedictory address at graduation. She now has a job in her field, thanks to her perseverance, and the help she received at Siwoff Low Vision Center!

In this season of good will, Siwoff Low Vision Center wants to give a shout-out to the Mayor of Lakewood, NJ, Ray Coles of Tek-Net, for gifting us with a much-needed technological part to further our research to treat and provide new hope for real recovery from dyslexia.
