Because measles spreads very easily, this is a good time for parents to make sure children are up to date on their MMR vaccine (Measles, Mumps, Rubella).
Standard MMR Vaccine Schedule
* 1st dose: 12 months old
* 2nd dose: 4 years old
Two doses protect about 97% of people from measles.
Should Children Get Vaccinated Early Right Now?
🦠 Due to the Michigan outbreak, doctors are encouraging some families to consider an early MMR dose for infants age 6–11 months, especially if they:
* Live in or travel to outbreak areas
* Attend daycare
* Will be around large groups or public travel
* Have known exposure risk
💉That early dose does not replace the regular 12-month dose—it is considered an extra protective dose.
⏰ If your child is 12 months or older and not vaccinated, schedule ASAP.
If your baby is 6–11 months, ask your pediatrician whether an early dose makes sense based on your county and travel plans.
