The fight or flight nature of horses predisposes them to beautifully expose our hidden emotions. To lead a 1,200-pound animal, your internal feelings must match your external actions. If you try to give direction while feeling unsure or afraid, a horse usually won't follow. Conversely, if you are present, confident, and gently assertive, they fall into their roles as partners and cherished companions. In this way, horses help us learn how to align our emotional states with our behaviors.

Sometimes, healing starts the moment we close our eyes and just breathe... In a world that’s constantly 'on,' our herd teaches us the power of turning inward and finding the stillness within.

Horses are non-judgemental in the sense that they don't care about your past, your diagnoses, or what you're wearing. Rather, they care about your energy, your presence, and how you show up to the barn each day.

You've heard us say that horses are like living mirrors. But how does this translate to equine assisted psychotherapy or equine assisted learning activities?

As prey animals, horses are hyper-aware of their surroundings. This means that they can actually detect a human's heart rate from several feet away. Feeling anxious or stressed? Horses know, and they will provide honest, immediate feedback that helps people recognize their emotional states.

The crunch of snow, the bright winter sun, and a soft nose to remind you that you’re exactly where you need to be. Sometimes the best therapy happens outside four walls. 👣

They don't see your history, your labels, or your 'to-do' list. They see your heart, your breath, and your truth in this exact moment. Sometimes, the best way to find yourself is to look through the eyes of someone who doesn't use words.

Meet Dreamer, one of the newer additions to our herd! ☁

Dreamer is a German Riding/Welsh Pony cross with a sense of humor and a heart of gold. An accomplished dude, Dreamer actually spent the majority of his life competing as a Grand Prix Dressage horse. These days, he enjoys being groomed, showing the ropes to our younger riders, and playing in the snow with his pasture buddy, Monty.
