Indiana Plan to present APPRENTICE READINESS PROGRAM beginning on Monday Feb 16

Indiana Plan will present a two-week Apprentice Readiness Program, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, Feb. 16-27, at the Teamster Local 142 union hall, 1300 Clark Road, Gary.

This program will assist participants seeking union apprenticeships by providing them—among other things—with the math, labor history, and interview and life skills necessary to prepare them to enter a trade and career as an apprentice.

REQUIREMENTS

*At least 18 years old.
*High school diploma or GED.
*Valid Indiana driver’s license.
*Pass a mandatory drug test.
*TABE (Test of Adult Basic Education).

This is an introduction to su***de prevention that helps participants learn how to recognize warning signs, reduce stigma, and support someone who may be struggling.

The Chesterton Fire Department will be offering FREE CPR classes throughout 2026. The first class will be Tuesday, February 17th from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Chesterton Fire Station, 702 Broadway.

Participant will learn adult, child and infant CPR, along with using an AED and choking relief.

**This class is not for certification, general knowledge only**

Class size is limited to 20 participants.

The Porter County Emergency Management Agency and Porter County Health Department has released a list of additional warming centers located throughout the county.

The Town of Chesterton recommends calling any warming center on the list first to verify that it is, indeed, open.

BURNS HARBOR

*Contact the Burns Harbor Police Department at 219-787-9412 or call 911, and the dispatcher will contact a Burns Harbor firefighter to assist you.

VALPARAISO
