I got this email from one of the mental health platforms that I use with clients. Scary stuff!

Good morning,

Teladoc Health has received information about a planned phishing and data extortion campaign that will use the upcoming American College of Surgeons (ACS) Cancer Conference (Feb 22-24) as a lure.

The perpetrators are anticipated to call a range of healthcare entities to elicit the business email addresses of their personnel and then follow up with emails disguised as conference invitations. These invitations will be infected with malicious software, known as malware. If successful, the malware will be used to steal confidential data and the threat actor group will attempt to convince victim organizations to pay a ransom to keep them from sharing the data publicly.

We are sharing this information to help you stay vigilant as many healthcare sector professionals may be expecting legitimate communications related to the upcoming conference. If you receive any communication related to the conference that you are unsure of, the best course of action is to reach out separately to the conference to validate.
