Couldn’t be more jazzed about biomimetic dentistry after taking an even deeper dive into the mechanics and principles of bonding.

What is biomimetic dentistry? Biomimetic means mimicking biology.

This approach relies on 3 pillars:
1. highly innovative and technologically advanced restorative materials, proven to be the highest and longest performing of their kind.
2. the use of those materials under the most ideal clinical conditions (ie total moisture isolation) to prevent contamination and maximize the lifespan of a tooth and it’s restoration.
3. very meticulous, strict techniques and protocols which allow the materials to perform to their highest degree and function in the most natural way, minimizing stress and strain on the tooth.

This lens allows us to approach even the simplest of restorations with the most diligence, understanding how our restorations will impact the long term prognosis of the teeth on which we work. The more tooth structure is missing, the more important technique and materials become.

In a nutshell, biomimetics is the greatest thing since sliced bread!

Meet the Doctor

Dr.Wood (formerly Salnik) believes that she is not in the business of diseased teeth but rather of treating people with their own unique dental strengths and challenges. By assessing their diet, hygiene, stress level, and self care practices, Dr.Wood shows her patients how their oral health fits in with their overall wellbeing. She enjoys creating individualized care programs focused on allaying fears and restoring what’s broken painlessly, specifying which hygiene tools will be most effective, alleviating the adverse dental effects of stress and certain foods, and providing her patients with the tools to maintain their smiles for life.

Dr. Wood graduated from the University of Maryland Dental School and completed a residency program in Advanced General Dentistry. She also completed a dental implant program at NYU, where she learned the most innovative techniques on replacing missing teeth, preserving and enhancing the body’s natural bone and gum tissue and allowing smiles to be the best versions of themselves. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Public Health from the George Washington University and a Master's degree in Physiology and Biophysics, with a focus on Complementary and Alternative Medicine from Georgetown University.

Dr.Wood is actively involved in the dental community. She attends training courses to continue to develop her skills, and volunteers in community oral health programs in the area and abroad. She is also a contributing author of a dental reference book "ADA/ PDR Guide to Dental Therapeutics" and a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors at the University of Maryland Dental School.

When not practicing dentistry, Dr.Wood enjoys traveling, spending time with family and friends, podcasting and honing her yoga and meditation practice. Dr.Wood speaks Spanish, Russian and Ukrainian.
