More and more information is coming out regarding serious safety violations in medspas around the country. The use of counterfeit or unapproved products, unsafe drug compounding, and lack of proper oversight are putting the public at risk (and the “warning letters” don’t seem like much of a deterrent to me). Protect yourself by being a smart consumer and seek out those clinics that are well-supervised by a physician with expertise in aesthetics. It’s scary out there and unfortunately, there aren’t enough resources to police these bad medspas. Do your homework! 🧐

Chemo cream vs. skin resurfacing lasers to clear out the photo damage. There are pros and cons to both. However, I like the message here…protect your skin when you are younger to avoid a lot of this damage when you are older. The top three most important?

1. Wear a Hat
2. Broad spectrum SPF
3. Get a bigger hat 😉

Don’t ignore any dark spot that’s changing on your face! Even if you are in your 30s- it could be melanoma. Alpine athletes have a higher risk do to exposure so if you have a skin lesion changing in size, shape or color, get to a board certified dermatologist right away to get it checked out. I’ll post this lovely patient’s surgery and laser scar revision in the future as she is still undergoing treatment.

Why 12? It’s the minimum number of years we went to school to become a Board Certified Dermatologist. That doesn’t even count the amount of research that many of us did. It’s an honor. It’s a privilege. And I can’t imagine doing anything else. 😊

Every year more and more scientific evidence is published about certain lasers imparting protection for squamous cell and basal cell skin cancers. In my experience the effect is cumulative, so if you already have issues with pre-cancers and non-melanoma skin cancer on your face, don’t wait. Ask your if laser skin resurfacing can help reduce your risk. Skin looks better AND becomes healthier with specific lasers too. 😊

Amazing! In the most recent edition of the an article describing the use of a strong salt solution used everyday for 8 weeks cause significant improvement of plantar (sole of the foot) warts. What an easy (and painless) way to improve this viral infection that plagues so many people. This could be a real game-changer so ask your board-certified dermatologist about it.

IMO it’s recommended reading because it’s comprehensive and includes lots of great info from experts in the field. I really enjoyed it.

Young moms have a lot going on- and now they are expected to look “perfect” too? At least for skin care, it can be easy and stress free. Choose a few high-quality products (no 17-step routine needed) and wear SPF and a big hat when outside with the kiddos (it teaches them habits too). And if you want to be proactive, start gentle, collagen stimulating treatments twice a year (laser or microneedling) to slow down the aging process and keep the skin looking vibrant. It’s all about consistency over time- that’s the secret sauce for beautiful skin.
