Baking season is in full swing! For those of us with food allergies, dietary restrictions or chronic illnesses, that can mean missing out on delicious treats. But don’t worry because I am sharing a round up of my favorite cookie swaps so that we can all enjoy gluten-free and dairy-free sweet treats at home or bring them to our next cookie exchange or holiday get together! 🍪

The holidays are supposed to feel magical… but if you’re navigating allergies, chronic illness or just trying to eat a little cleaner, they can feel overwhelming fast. When I was first diagnosed with food allergies and chronic health issues, holidays were really stressful. Navigating a huge diet change is not fun. Now I plan ahead, make simple swaps and create versions of holiday favorites instead of stressing out ❤️🎄

I can’t believe it’s already December?! December seasonal produce! ❄️Comment your fave below or what you are excited to make with it!

Why it’s beneficial to eat seasonally:

-Seasonal food is fresher! The average piece of produce at the store has traveled 1000 miles to get to you. If you shop locally and seasonally, the produce was picked more recently.
-It can save money! Fruits and vegetables that are in season tend to be cheaper.
-Locally-sourced seasonal produce can be healthier because anti-oxidants decline when stored for long periods of time. Grocery stores also add preservatives to extend the shelf life 👀
-Eating with the seasons can help support what our bodies need during that time period!
-Seasonal food is more flavorful!
-It can help you get creative in the kitchen and experiment with foods you may not have cooked with before.
-Eating seasonally is also more environmentally-friendly! Eating in season can reduce the demand for out of season produce which helps to support your local farming.

My favorite ways to eat seasonally AND locally are to shop at local farmers markets or participate in a CSA! Get ready for some seasonal recipes this month 🎃
