At Humanistic Psychologists of Chicago, we pause today to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dr. King’s influence reaches far beyond history books. He reminded us that our shared humanity is stronger than fear, division, or hatred—and that real change begins within how we see and treat one another.
His work teaches us that justice is inseparable from compassion, that healing is both personal and collective, and that we are responsible for one another’s dignity. In therapy, we see this truth daily: when people feel seen, valued, and connected, growth becomes possible.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.
Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”
— Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
May we continue striving toward empathy over judgment, connection over isolation, and courage over complacency—in our communities, our relationships, and ourselves.
