October is National Depression Education & Awareness Month — a time to talk about what often goes unspoken in our community.

In many Asian families, depression is misunderstood or minimized. Yet behind achievement, strength, or quiet endurance, many are struggling in silence.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we believe that acknowledging pain is the first step toward healing. You don’t have to face it alone — help is available, and your feelings are valid. 🌿

Do you know today is Confucius Day? Let’s honor this philosopher whose teachings have deeply shaped Asian cultures. For Asian Americans, Confucian values like respect, education, and family harmony are powerful sources of resilience. At the same time, they can sometimes contribute to silence around mental health or pressure to always achieve.

💡 At Lotus Root Counseling, we believe honoring tradition and supporting well-being can go hand in hand, and we are committed to supporting Asian American mental health with understanding, compassion, and cultural awareness. https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/

🌏 Today is World Day for Cultural Diversity — a reminder that mental health care must honor the unique experiences of every community.

For Asian Americans, cultural identity shapes how we experience stress, resilience, and healing. Breaking stigma and creating culturally responsive care isn’t just important — it’s essential.

💬 At Lotus Root Counseling, we are committed to supporting Asian American mental health with understanding, compassion, and cultural awareness. https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/

This Labor Day, we honor the hard work and resilience of Asian American communities whose contributions have often been overlooked. 💪🏻

For many AAPI families, work is tied to survival, sacrifice, and legacy. While this brings strength, it can also create pressure, stress, and burnout.

Let today be a reminder: Rest is not weakness—it’s healing. By caring for ourselves, we also honor the generations who labored before us. 💛

🌿 This Labor Day, we honor the hard work and dedication of Asian American communities while also recognizing the importance of rest, balance, and mental well-being.

💼 Many Asian Americans face unique challenges in the workplace—pressure to overperform, cultural stigma around asking for help, and navigating environments where mental health is rarely discussed.

🌸 At Lotus Root Counseling, we believe that caring for your mental health is just as important as your professional success. This Labor Day, we encourage you to pause, rest, and remember that your worth is not defined by productivity.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/ we’re here to support AAPI youth in finding balance, building confidence, and knowing it’s okay to ask for help. 💛

Let’s make this school year about learning and well-being.

May is AAPI Heritage Month — a time to honor our roots, culture, and resilience. But it’s also a time to recognize the unseen burdens many of us carry.

💭 Intergenerational trauma shows up in our families as silence, pressure, shame, or emotional distance — passed down from histories of war, migration, and survival.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we believe healing begins when we name what was never talked about. You’re not alone, and you don’t have to carry it all.

Let’s break cycles, not connections. 💛

May is Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month 💛
As we celebrate our stories, culture, and resilience, let’s also hold space for our mental health.
Breaking generational silence, unlearning stigma, and healing together — that’s part of our heritage too. 🌿

Ruby (Jinxiao) Tan is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker dedicated to providing trauma-informed, culturally affirming therapy to Asian, Asian American, BIPOC, immigrant, and underserved communities. As a first-generation immigrant born and raised in China, Ruby deeply understands the complexities of navigating cultural transitions, intergenerational dynamics, trauma, and the invisible weight of systemic inequities. Having lived in the U.S. for over five years, Ruby also understands the process of cultural adaptation, the challenges of adjustment, and the ways in which complex identities are shaped by an individual’s unique experiences. Ruby’s practice is rooted in the belief that therapy is a journey of partnership and courage—where healing begins when individuals feel seen, heard, and empowered to cultivate self-compassion, build healthier relationships, navigate life’s challenges with resilience, and reclaim their narratives.

Ruby’s therapeutic approach incorporates evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), trauma-informed care and Trauma-Focused CBT, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Humanistic Therapy, Interpersonal Psychotherapy, Expressive Therapy, and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). She prioritizes collaboration, ensuring therapy aligns with clients’ cultural values, lived experiences, and personal goals. Fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese, she creates a safe, nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their identities, process systemic barriers and inequities, and cultivate resilience.
