April is Stress Awareness Month, a reminder that stress is not only emotional—it also affects the body, relationships, and daily functioning.

For many Asian Americans, stress can be shaped by cultural expectations, achievement pressure, caregiving roles, and the tendency to minimize personal distress. Over time, unaddressed stress may lead to burnout, anxiety, or depression.

At Lotus Root Counseling, we believe that increasing awareness is one step toward healthier coping and long-term well-being 🌱

NEW THERAPIST ❤️

Jessica Kim is a therapist who is deeply committed to supporting and empowering historically underrepresented communities through compassionate and culturally responsive mental health care. As a second-generation Korean American who grew up in an immigrant family, Jess understands how cultural identity, family expectations, and systemic barriers can shape the way people see themselves and interact with the world. She approaches therapy as a collaborative and individualized experience and honors each client’s unique story by creating a safe, nonjudgmental space where they can connect with their true selves.

Therapy sessions with Jess are grounded in curiosity and empathy, encouraging clients to explore themselves and their stories at a pace that feels supportive, healing, and empowering. Jess mainly draws from Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), narrative therapy, restorative justice, mindfulness, and other trauma-informed approaches. However, she also views therapy as a collaborative process and works alongside clients to develop a personalized approach that cultivates safety and trust and encourages open-minded exploration.

Link in bio to schedule with Jessica. Jessica accepts Aetna PPO, BCBS PPO/EPO, Cigna/Evernorth insurance plans.

March is Social Work Month, a time to recognize the role social workers play in supporting individuals, families, and communities.💪🏻💪🏻

For many Asian Americans, barriers such as stigma, cultural expectations, and limited access to culturally responsive providers can make it difficult to seek mental health care. Social workers help bridge these gaps by providing compassionate, culturally informed support🫂🫂

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we are proud to contribute to this work by supporting the mental health and well-being of Asian and Asian American communities.❤️

To our Asian American and immigrant communities:

Times of uncertainty can stir fear, stress, and old wounds — especially for those who have lived through migration, separation, or survival under threat.

If you’re feeling anxious, tense, or overwhelmed, your reactions make sense. You are not alone, and you don’t have to carry this silently. Caring for your mental health during moments like this is not selfish — it’s protective.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we hold space for AAPI immigrants with compassion, cultural understanding, and respect. Your feelings are valid, and support is available.

Today we honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., whose work reminds us that justice, dignity, and care are deeply connected.

For Asian Americans, mental health challenges are often shaped by cultural stigma, silence, and limited access to culturally responsive support. Recognizing mental health as part of collective well-being is one way we continue the work of caring for our communities.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we believe that healing, visibility, and compassion are essential — for individuals and for society as a whole.

The New Year often comes with hope — and pressure.
For many Asian Americans, it can mean renewed expectations to succeed, improve, and make others proud.

But mental health doesn’t follow a calendar, and growth doesn’t have to look like constant productivity.

This year, consider intentions that support your emotional well-being: more rest, clearer boundaries, asking for help, and being kinder to yourself.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we support Asian and Asian American clients in building a relationship with mental health that honors both culture and self-care.

As the year winds down, holidays can bring warmth, connection, and joy—but also complexity. For many Asian Americans, this season may include family expectations, cultural traditions, long-distance loved ones, or quiet moments of reflection.

May this season offer you gentleness, grounding, and moments that feel truly yours. You deserve care—not just for what you do, but for who you are.

Wishing you peace, comfort, and meaningful connection this holiday season. ✨

The holiday season can be a meaningful time, but for many Asian Americans, it also brings unique emotional challenges. Family expectations, cultural pressure to stay composed, and feelings of disconnection or loneliness often surface this time of year.

In many Asian cultures, we’re taught to maintain harmony, not burden others, and show strength. But your emotional needs matter too. Setting boundaries and practicing self-care are not selfish — they are essential for your well-being.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we honor both cultural values and mental health needs. You deserve support during the holiday season and beyond.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a form of depression that often appears in fall and winter as daylight decreases. For many Asian Americans, these symptoms can be dismissed as “just tired” or “winter blues,” which delays support.

SAD is real and treatable. If you notice ongoing changes in mood, energy, sleep, or interest in daily life during colder months, reaching out for help is a valid and important step.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, , we support Asian and Asian American clients in understanding how culture, seasons, and mental health intersect, and in finding individualized strategies for relief and prevention.

October is National Depression Education & Awareness Month — a time to talk about what often goes unspoken in our community.

In many Asian families, depression is misunderstood or minimized. Yet behind achievement, strength, or quiet endurance, many are struggling in silence.

At Lotus Root Counseling https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/, we believe that acknowledging pain is the first step toward healing. You don’t have to face it alone — help is available, and your feelings are valid. 🌿

Do you know today is Confucius Day? Let’s honor this philosopher whose teachings have deeply shaped Asian cultures. For Asian Americans, Confucian values like respect, education, and family harmony are powerful sources of resilience. At the same time, they can sometimes contribute to silence around mental health or pressure to always achieve.

💡 At Lotus Root Counseling, we believe honoring tradition and supporting well-being can go hand in hand, and we are committed to supporting Asian American mental health with understanding, compassion, and cultural awareness. https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/

🌏 Today is World Day for Cultural Diversity — a reminder that mental health care must honor the unique experiences of every community.

For Asian Americans, cultural identity shapes how we experience stress, resilience, and healing. Breaking stigma and creating culturally responsive care isn’t just important — it’s essential.

💬 At Lotus Root Counseling, we are committed to supporting Asian American mental health with understanding, compassion, and cultural awareness. https://www.lotusrootcounseling.com/
