Black Maternal Health Week is a time to pause, listen, and act.

In the U.S., Black women are still disproportionately impacted by maternal health complications. This week is about naming that truth and committing to doing better.

We’re proud that Nurture Therapy was part of Northwestern’s Improving Black Maternal Outcomes Open House—a space dedicated to collaboration, education, and real change. Being in rooms like this matters. It’s where providers come together, and where we move from awareness to action.

At Nurture, this work is ongoing. It shows up in how we train our clinicians, how we think about access, how we partner with medical providers, and how we hold space for the full, lived experiences of the families we serve.

Happy and healthy parents raise happy and healthy babies—and that has to be true for all families.

When we built out the office, we dreamed that it would one day become a space for people to gather. Georgia, Lauren, Aimee and .together thank you for making this into a reality for us! ✨

It’s an honor to host this cohort of .together families and have a tiny part in Georgia’s amazing mission. Expecting Together brings together new and expecting parents, providing education and support, and building their village. As a perinatal mental health expert, the best gift you can give new parents is a community of support. We’re thrilled these new beginnings will start in our space!

You’re not falling apart. You’re dysregulated. And your body is asking for help getting back to safety.

Forward fold isn’t just a stretch, it can be a full-body resent. This gentle posture helps release tension in the neck, back and shoulders while activating the parasympathetic (“rest and digest”) system. This invites your body to slow down and feel safe.

Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, heavy, or need a pause in your day, this exercise can meet you where you are.

Welcoming your baby into the world brings so much joy, but it can also shift the dynamics of your relationship. Many couples find that after baby, intimacy feels different — not because something’s wrong, but simply because life has changed.
Nurture Therapy

At Nurture Therapy, we offer intimacy therapy tailored for new parents. Our approach helps couples:

-Communicate more openly and compassionately
-Rebuild trust and emotional safety
-Re-establish physical closeness (on your terms)
-Create small, meaningful routines that keep you connected

Intimacy therapy isn’t about “fixing” a broken relationship. It’s about nurturing the bond you already have and learning tools that carry you through this new chapter with love and resilience.

Where do you turn when the postpartum period is harder than you thought it would be?

Therapy can help you:
✨ Understand & name your emotions
✨ Build stronger bonds with those around you
✨ Find tools to cope when things feel blurry

You don’t have to go through this alone. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means you’re choosing healing.

If you’re ready, I’d love to help you find a therapist who gets it.

It can be an incredible experience to have a baby… but it’s also totally normal to feel overwhelmed, anxious, or even sad during this time.

Postpartum brings so many emotional changes — some joyful ones, others harder to face. Therapy can be a powerful way to heal, feel seen, and get grounded again.

With postpartum therapy, you can:
• Talk through your fears and emotions in a safe space
• Build stronger connections with your partner or family
• Gain tools to cope when the highs feel high and the lows feel low
• Find support in group settings or one-on-one

You can absolutely do this, and you don’t have to go through it alone. Seeking help shows strength, not weakness. If you’re ready to explore the benefits of postpartum therapy, we’re here for you. Nurture Therapy offers individual, group, and family therapy to help you feel balanced, understood, and supported.

Choosing the right mental health support is a deeply personal journey—and thankfully, you have options. As a therapist, I often help clients compare two common paths: medication, therapy, or sometimes a combination of both.

Here’s a breakdown to help you think through what might feel most helpful:

Medication
• Can help manage symptoms by addressing chemical imbalances in the brain.
• Often useful when symptoms are significantly interfering with daily life (sleep, mood, ability to work or manage relationships).
• Finding the “right fit” may require adjustments—medications, doses, or timing.

Therapy
• Provides a safe, consistent space to explore thoughts, feelings, past experiences, and reactions.
• Helps you build coping strategies, self-awareness, and tools to respond to stress in healthier ways.
• There are many approaches (cognitive-behavioral, psychodynamic, group therapy, etc.), so you can choose what resonates most.

Combining Both
Sometimes the fastest, most sustainable progress happens when medication eases acute symptoms, and therapy supports the deep, emotional, behavioral work.

What to consider in your decision:
• How intense are your symptoms right now?
• How do your values and lifestyle feel aligned with therapy, medication, or both?
• What kind of support feels manageable—emotionally, time-wise, financially?

Remember: choosing therapy, medication, or combining them is not about one being better universally—it’s about what works for you now. If you want to talk through your options, I’d be honored to help you find a path that feels right.

Need help taking that step? We offer free 15-minute consultations to discuss your situation and what support might look like. Let’s figure this out together.
