Did you know... the liver is the only organ in the body that is capable of regenerating itself? "Liver regeneration makes living donor liver transplantation possible. A person can donate a portion of his or her liver – up to 60 percent of it – to be transplanted into another person. In only about six weeks, the transplanted liver section grows into a normal sized, fully functioning liver in the recipient, and the donor’s remaining liver regenerates to replace the transplanted section." https://www.uofmhealth.org/conditions-treatments/transplantation/living-donor-liver-transplant

Christmas is just days away and in true holiday spirit, here are Bon, Holly, and their grandson sharing a special moment together. This really is the season of love, family, joy, celebration, and gifts.

Speaking of gifts, there is one very special gift Holly needs; a new liver. It's at the top of her list because she wants more moments like the moment you see pictured her. Time with her husband, children, and grandson. More time to laugh and cherish with her dear friends. More time to continue her good works (she has contributed so much to several charitable organizations). And just more time to live her life and be the Holly we all the love - the Holly who lights up a room and uplifts everyone around her.

Please, if you're seeing this, SHARE this post and help us find her special living liver donor. We know that beautiful person is out there. We just need him/her to see this message.

Bon French Katheryn French Meagher

Holly is still looking for her special living liver donor. As a reminder, there are a few requirements for interested donors must meet:

1. Age range of 18-55 (hospital may consider older individuals who are healthier).
2. BMI under 30.
3. Healthy non-smoker – you will be asked about health, medical, and surgical history.
4. Must be blood type O, if you are blood type A, the hospital can do an additional blood test to see if you are A2 which would be compatible.
5. Must have support from family and friends.

One thing many people do not know is that sometimes family members cannot donate to their loved ones. This may be due to being incompatible blood types or underlying medical conditions. In some cases, the best living donor is one who is not a family member even when family members do step forward to donate.

You read that right! The average stay is usually a week, and that is the average for both the patient and the donor. Additionally, the full recovery time for the donor is about 2 months, but most living liver donors can return to work in about 2 weeks. Once you donate a section of your liver, it starts to regrow almost immediately. The body really is that wonderful and capable of regeneration. Many people ask why you need or would want a living liver donor? There are many answers to this question ranging from waiting less time to have lifesaving surgery, to longer survival rates. Here is another important reason:

"People who have a living-donor liver transplant seem to have fewer medical problems after the procedure than those who receive a liver from a deceased donor. A liver from a living donor also has a longer survival rate." - Mayo Clinic

This past weekend, Holly spent time with her family. Here she is pictured on the left with her daughter Katheryn and her grandson. What a beautiful moment! Holly continues to battle liver disease, and she does so bravely, with her family by her side. Spending more time with her grandson is something Holly truly looks forward to after her liver transplant. Can you please help her by sharing this post? We are still looking for her lifesaving liver donor.
