March is Autoimmune Awareness Month

Autoimmune diseases occur when the immune system mistakenly attacks the body’s own tissues. Celiac disease is one of them. It's not a food allergy or a sensitivity. It's a chronic autoimmune condition.

In people with celiac disease, eating gluten triggers an immune response that damages the small intestine, interfering with nutrient absorption and affecting systems throughout the body. Left untreated, this immune reaction can lead to long-term health complications.

Raising awareness matters because many people with celiac disease remain undiagnosed or misdiagnosed for years.

Understanding celiac disease as an autoimmune condition is an important step toward earlier diagnosis, proper management, and better long-term health.
