At Gifted Hands International, we are heartbroken and outraged by the recent incidents in Crown Point,Indiana and Dallas, Texas. Two Black women in active labor were denied medical care and forced out of hospitals, only to deliver their babies within minutes, without safety, dignity, or proper support.
These are not “isolated incidents.”
These are not “misunderstandings.”
These are symptoms of a system that continues to fail Black women at every level. No woman should ever be turned away while begging for help.
No laboring mother should be forced to give birth in a car, on the side of the road, still attached to her
baby’s umbilical cord.
No family should have to experience trauma that was preventable.
This is why doula education matters.
This is why culturally competent support matters.
This is why advocacy is not optional for us!
IT IS THE FOUNDATION OUR WORK!
GHI stands with these mothers, their families, and every Black woman whose safety continues to be
threatened by medical racism.
We are committed to training doulas who understand both the humanity and the urgency of this crisis.
We will continue to speak out, to show up, and to fight for better outcomes because Black mothers
deserve more than survival. They deserve respect, compassion, and care.
