10 months after starting planning and community engagement, the University of Chicago Medicine has updated its original proposal to build the city’s first freestanding cancer hospital with an enhanced design that incorporates feedback from patients and residents of the South Side.

UChicago Medicine's project to build a hospital dedicated to cancer care, prevention and research has been revised in response to needs of patients and will bring world-class, human-centered care to the South Side, where the incidence of cancer is too high.

According to new recommendations from the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases, people with obesity or type 2 diabetes should be screened for fatty liver disease with a simple FIB-4 test, calculated from a common blood test. If fatty liver disease is diagnosed early with a FIB-4 test, it can be controlled, preventing further liver damage and disease.

UChicago Medicine AdventHealth, a joint venture between UChicago Medicine and Advent Health, has announced plans to bring academic medicine to the western suburbs. This joint venture will allow UChicago Medicine to gain a controlling interest in AdventHealth's Great Lakes Regions.

The University of Chicago Medicine and AdventHealth have formed a joint venture called UChicago Medicine AdventHealth, which combines the expertise and resources of both organizations to bring academic medicine to the western suburbs.

Due to a successful open microsurgery to remove the lesion causing her CCM (cerebral cavernous malfunction), a teen was able to see a drastic change, with no partial or big seizures since the surgery.

High school student's care included specialists in pediatric neurology and neurosurgery at two hospitals through the Chicagoland Children's Health Alliance (CCHA).

After receiving a devastating diagnosis of stage 4 lung cancer during the process of buying their first house, Mr. Polo now shows no evidence of the disease due to his participation in COSINR, a clinical trial at UChicago Medicine.

The University of Chicago Medicine has launched a novel bedside program with Legal Aid Chicago to provide bedside civil legal help for patients and families recovering from violent injuries. The initiative will spend the first year focusing on helping patients obtain public benefits and economic stability and hopes to expand the pilot project to add assistance for housing, education and employment.

The University of Chicago Medicine has launched a novel partnership with Legal Aid Chicago, embedding two full-time lawyers within the health system’s Level 1 trauma center.

The University of Chicago Medicine broke ground on a new two-story, 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center and micro-hospital in Northwest Indiana for what will be the academic health system's largest off-site facility and its first freestanding building in Indiana. The Crown Point center is expected to have 110,00 patient visits each year and create at least 150 high-paying clinical and nonclinical jobs.

UChicago Medicine broke ground on its largest off-site facility, a 130,000-square-foot multispecialty care center just off I-65 in Crown Point, Indiana. The facility is expected to open in spring 2024.

Mark Anderson, a renowned scholar, physician and caregiver, has been appointed to lead the University of Chicago’s field-defining work in medicine and biological sciences as Executive Vice President for Medical Affairs, Dean of the Division of the Biological Sciences and Dean of the Pritzker School of Medicine, effective October 1.
