As Early Intervention Therapists, we often see parents purchasing high-tech toys with tons of buttons, sounds, lights, etc. What's our opinion? We encourage the "less is more" mentality. Simple toys encourage your child to engage in pretend play, produce sound effects themselves, and makes it easier for your child to pay attention to what you are modeling for them. Yes, it's okay for your child to have toys that play music and light up so that they are entertained independently, but when expecting them to pay attention to your models and encouraging communication - avoid them.
