This Friday, we are excited to spotlight Remi, a rising 3rd year student at The College studying Biological Sciences with a specialization in Genetics. This summer, she worked with Dr. Funmi Olopade and her partners at the Sickle Africa Data Coordinating Center (SADaCC) in Cape Town to co-develop an educational program on Sickle Cell Disease for patients, caregivers, and the public.

This Friday, we are excited to spotlight Ayush, a 2nd year Masters of Public Policy (MPP) candidate at The University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy. This summer, he worked with Dr. Funmi Olopade and her partners at Lagos State University (LSU) and University College Hospital (UCH) in Nigeria. His project focused on magnetic resonance imaging-based hippocampal volumetry in a cohort of Nigerian dementia patients.

The winter deadline to apply to the College Center for Research and Fellowships' Quad Undergraduate Research Scholars program is Wednesday, December 17th, 2025.

Quad Undergraduate Research Scholars receive a grant of $5,000 and participate in CCRF programming to enhance their experience and build a cross-disciplinary research community. Quad grants support engagement in faculty-driven research for an entire academic year.

Tomorrow, November 6th, the Chicago Council on Global Affairs will host their hybrid event "Built to Last: Creating Climate Resilient Communities." As policymakers, business leaders, and climate advocates prepare to gather in Brazil for COP30, communities worldwide are increasingly confronting unprecedented climate challenges. From deadly heat waves in Europe to catastrophic flooding in Asia, the climate crisis is testing not only our infrastructure, but also our collective mental health and social resilience. What strategies are proving most effective as communities build comprehensive climate resilience that addresses both physical and psychological impacts? What does it mean for Chicago to position itself as a potential climate refuge, and what vulnerabilities must the city tackle to make this vision a reality? Join Kristina Costa, Jennifer Uchendu, Kobi Weinberg, and Elizabeth Andrews for a discussion on translating global climate solutions into local action.
