Our Rush research team had the pleasure to attend the Parkinson's Disease Symposium: The Gut-Brain Connection at NIU last Saturday, April 11, 2026. Rush partnered with Parkinson's Foundation to provide patients and caregivers information and tools to understand PD and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms that can affect daily function, medication, response, nutrition, swallowing safety and quality of life.

With 200+ in-person attendees, we were able to share Rush Movement Disorder's research efforts in learning more about the connection between PD and gut symptoms.​

🧠Dr. Sadeghpour, RUSH Movement Disorders fellow, will lead a discussion on the basics of Parkinson's Disease and what people living with PD and their families need to know as they navigate and thrive with this condition. Dr. Samantha Patel, RUSH Movement Disorders psychiatrist, will discuss social cognition; what it is, how PD can impact social interactions, and strategies to manage symptoms.

The Rush Huntington's Disease Center of Excellence (HD COE) will be partnering with Northwestern's HD COE to hold the first Joint Huntington's Disease Education Day. 🧠🧑‍🏫

The Education Day will feature speakers from Rush, Northwestern, and the HDSA and will cover topics ranging from updates in HD research to disability. 🧪👩‍🔬

The Parkinson's Foundation (PF) and Lewy Body Dementia Association (LBDA) are heading to Washington, D.C., on September 9, for the 2025 Parkinson's Disease Policy Forum. Hundreds of advocates will be coming together to urge federal government to prioritize funding of neurodegenerative disease research. 🧠
