As the new year approaches, we look forward to continuing our mission and raising the possibilities for more children in our community.

In 2025, we helped thousands of patients navigate the journey of living with medically complex and chronic conditions while providing critical services to their families, too.

We are rounding out the year, deeply grateful for our patients, families, donors, supporters, partners, and all of our staff who make up our La Rabida community!

We decked the halls of La Rabida with gifts for patients this season!

This year, more than 2,000 patients and their siblings have felt the magic of the holidays when receiving toys from the Elf Room. Thank you to our many community partners who have helped us stock our shelves and given gifts of holiday cheer to the children this year.

🎁☃️🎫 Our Elf Room is an annual gift-giving program for children who visit our outpatient clinic. Every patient who has an appointment with their provider in the weeks leading up to the holidays gets a special ticket for a bag of gifts they can redeem at our Elf Room.

Our patients are feeling a bit warmer with these coats! Thank you, State Rep. Debbie Meyers-Martin, for this generous donation and for visiting our Children’s Advocacy Center to learn more about the life-changing care we provide to victims of child abuse and trauma.

From the first steps after therapy sessions, the first breath without a ventilator, and the first feeding without a g-tube, our patients experience many first moments with their families by their side, creating lifelong memories.

Through our pediatric expert care, we witness patients' resilience and ambition, which strengthens our commitment to our mission. None of these moments of healing would be possible without the generosity and compassionate hearts of our partners, supporters, and community. For that, we thank you.

The Christmas and holiday spirit at La Rabida continued with a personal visit from Santa! He came in with lights and sirens aboard CFD - Engine 63, Tower Ladder 16, Ambulance 70, Paramedic Field Chief 458 to deliver presents to children in the hospital on Christmas Day.

This is a holiday tradition we hold close to our hearts! For 55 years, and counting, Santa makes a special visit to our hospital. Michael M. laces up his special boots – the same ones his father once wore – and puts on the iconic red suit to make sure our patients still have the full Christmas experience.

🎄🎁💙 As a second-generation Santa Claus, Michael hopes our patients and families can create and share these memories for years to come.

Generations of Giving Back: Augusta continues the annual tradition her late grandparents started years ago to support patients at La Rabida.

Former board member, Fred Walz, and his wife, Marilyn, would take their granddaughter, Augusta, shopping each year on her birthday. Augusta would choose special gifts for the patients at La Rabida so that they could have a bright and merry holiday, too.

Since his passing earlier this year, Augusta continues carrying out her grandfather's legacy and this special tradition through her compassionate and philanthropic heart. Beyond bringing bags of gifts, Augusta’s commitment to our mission has evolved, and she interned at La Rabida over the summer.

💙🎁❄️Thank you, Augusta, and her mother, Sara, who brought these gifts to our hospital and visited with Dr. Rolla T. Sweis, Pharm.D., M.A., President & CEO of La Rabida.

It's an all-hands-on-deck effort at La Rabida! Our Holiday Helpers have brought the holiday spirit this season by handing out toys to our patients from our Elf Room! Thank you, Boys & Girls Clubs of Chicago, University of Chicago Laboratory Schools, , ComEd, Windy City Ghostbusters, , , and Blacks In Government Chicago Midwest Chapter, and our Corporate Advisory Board (CAB)!

We are leaders in delivering the best specialized through advocacy, hands-on education and wrap-around care for children and families.

Our specialties include: Diabetes, sickle cell, cerebral palsy, inpatient transitional care, children with medical technology needs, rehabilitative services (traumatic brain injury, burn rehabilitation and post-surgical care).

We offer innovative services that extend beyond what insurance covers, because we believe every child deserves a healthy start in life regardless of a family’s ability to pay.
