The excitement of starting a new book doesn’t have to fade. Instead, our patients will always feel the magic of opening a new one. 📖✨💫

Lab work plays a critical role in our patients’ medical care. As a point-of-care testing lab, the team performs approximately 200 in-house tests each month to guide decision-making for providers and clinical team members when creating a child’s care plan.

Our phlebotomy experts are skilled in compassionate, child-friendly techniques, using a gentle approach to make blood testing as comfortable as possible for children.

Resilience and hope took a front seat at the Cook County Board of Commissioners meeting Thursday morning.

Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller presented a resolution to recognize April as Child Abuse Awareness and Prevention Month in Cook County while honoring the 40th anniversary of La Rabida Children’s Advocacy Center and its service to the community.

Thank you to Commissioner Miller and other members of the Cook County Board for their support of children in Cook County and the important work of La Rabida Children’s Advocacy Center.

At La Rabida, we know first impressions are just as important as the journey. We proudly celebrated our frontline professionals during Patient Access Week (April 5–11, 2026).

Often behind the scenes but playing a critical role, our Patient Access Coordinators and Case Managers support every patient, family, and provider to help a child get the care they need and make the process seamless for families.

“At La Rabida, Patient Access is the front door of the patient experience, guiding everything that happens from the moment of scheduling an appointment to a visit in the exam room with our providers,” says Lead Patient Access Coordinator, Ronda. “We are here for our patients, families, and the care team, helping ensure that every visit starts off right.”

The “Glow and Grow” theme for the 2026 MEANGirlsEmpowerment Girls Health Matters Summit was a perfect fit for the work we do every day to nurture and support the growth and healthy futures of young people in our community.

Case Manager Carolina and Family Peer Advocate Achsah from La Rabida Chicago Child Trauma Center (CCTC), along with Madison, a La Rabida Volunteer, attended the summit last Saturday at Englewood STEM High School to share mental health and self-care resources with hundreds of young girls and their families.

April is and a time to celebrate, support, and uplift every child’s unique strength and personality.

At La Rabida, our caring team of specially trained rehabilitation specialists, like our infant development, speech, occupational, and physical therapists, works closely with our pediatricians to support children diagnosed with autism and help them reach their full potential.

Jessica, occupational therapist, and Liz, speech-language pathologist, have been working with 5-year-old Donovan for two months. With each visit, Donovan reaches new milestones. He can climb to the top of the ladder using sensory techniques he’s learned and excitedly tell Mom about it in full sentences.

“I’ve seen so much progress,” says Donovan’s mom, Shanice. “I remember the first time he said something to me; he wasn’t frustrated or pointing. He was just talking to me!”

Staying at the hospital can be overwhelming for kids. That’s where our Child Life Services Team comes in!

Child Life Specialists make some of the hardest moments a little easier for children and their families. From easing fear to creating fun moments, they bring comfort, understanding, and support when it’s needed most.

A special thanks to La Rabida’s Child Life Manager, Ericka, and Child Life Specialists Megan, Xavier, and Yasmeen, who use their creativity, care, and compassion to make the hospital experience the best it can be for our patients and their families.

Patients and families at La Rabida Children’s Hospital were surprised by a special visitor on Easter morning. Long-time hospital supporter Allen Kutchins, dressed as the Easter Bunny, delivered baskets to children who spent the holiday in the hospital, bringing smiles and creating cherished family memories.

Thank you to our Corporate Advisory Board for donating the baskets and to our volunteers and community partners, , who packaged the special gifts!
