Taking a coffee break is a lot more fun with the Dunkin' Joy in Childhood Foundation! Cuppy Coffee matched our patients’ energy and dance moves during a visit to La Rabida.

Visits to the doctor are full of fun surprises, with child-friendly, familiar faces! Our walk-in clinic is open to any child who needs a checkup.

Medical care is much more than just charts and clinical conversations. La Rabida and Midwestern University are leading the way together in educating the next generation of pediatricians on a holistic approach to healthcare and healing.

Helping our families beyond the exam room: three second-year pediatric medical students, Ryan Elliot, Hannah Pugh, and Cameron Schluter, and Midwestern University Director of Clinical Education Relationships Management, Dr. James Mackenzie, donated to our Open Access Food Pantries.

The support comes after Christina Linboom, La Rabida's Director of Inpatient Case Management and Outpatient Care Coordination Services & Social Work, spoke with Midwestern University medical students in January about the social determinants of health that affect our families' overall health and well-being, like food insecurity.

Thank you, Dr. Mackenzie, Ryan Elliot, Hannah Pugh, and Cameron Schluter, for working on behalf of the Student Osteopathic Pediatrics Association (SOPA) and for meeting with Christina and La Rabida President & CEO Dr. Rolla Sweis. Together, we are helping to bridge the gaps in healthcare inequities in our communities.

Mission Moment: Engaging with our mission takes different forms. Meet Grandma B., who actively cheers on the life-changing medical care we provide for our patients across our social platforms.

💛💙⛵She has a direct connection to our mission through her granddaughter, Olivia H.

💬Olivia, a speech-language pathologist, helps our patients find their voice and have a seat at the table through our feeding clinic. She is also known as our 2025 Heart of the Quarter, a committed pediatric professional who personifies our core values!

Grandma B., along with Olivia's parents and brother, recently visited La Rabida to get a firsthand look at the place where life-changing work happens every day.

⚓Thank you, Olivia, for sharing our mission from our La Rabida family to yours!

Brick by brick, with Bricks of Hope, our patients' imagination took flight from our outpatient clinic lobby! The view from our lakeshore campus inspired Daniel's creativity, and he put together a high-tech vessel that can travel by water and air. Meanwhile, Adriel saw the bins of LEGOs waiting to be stacked sky high and couldn't resist.

When patients visit their doctor at La Rabida, we make sure they have a great experience and are able to do what they do best - be a kid!

It's bright and big, and it's one way we strive to make our patients feel safer and more comfortable. It may look like Rachel McGinnis, director of La Rabida Children's Advocacy Center (LRCAC), is standing by a dollhouse, but it's much more than that.

This special dollhouse provides a playful distraction for children to enjoy before the LRCAC team begins the forensic interview process. Our trauma-informed specialists conduct nearly 500 interviews every year. The donation from the Imagination Dollhouses for Children is a beautiful display of craftsmanship, community, and healing.

One screening at a time, La Rabida Chicago Children's Diabetes Center (CCDC) helped families learn, connect, and break through barriers at the BT1D Illinois Community Summit in Rosemont.

CCDC Medical Director Dr. Anita Swamy spoke with families about diabetes screenings and prevention. As a comprehensive, holistic provider, we offered specialized testing for nearly 50 individuals related to a family member with type 1 diabetes to assess their risk. Clinical Director, Dr. Rosemary Briars; Administrator, Rehna B.; and Nurse Practitioners, Emily K. and Amanda R., ensured each person who stopped by our table had their questions answered and were connected to our pediatric resources at CCDC.

💙🤝We are proud to be part of events that provide life-changing education and empower community health!

The halls of La Rabida are filled with history and memories of a time Tim Dietze, a former patient and current supporter, recalls very well.

Tim developed rheumatic fever as a kindergartener in the 1950s. He spent two months hospitalized on bed rest in our inpatient unit; however, some of his favorite moments happened right here at La Rabida.

He remembers the view of the lake from his cabin, his Hopalong Cassidy pajamas, and special visits from Bob Hope and the actors who played Cisco and Poncho on "The Cisco Kid" TV show. His parents visited him every Sunday.

“At the time, the care was free, which made a difference for my family. We wouldn’t have been able to afford it,” says Dietze.

For 18 years, Tim returned to La Rabida for annual checkups to ensure he continued to make a full recovery. Fifty years later, Tim says he doesn’t have any cardiac-related issues from the condition and credits the medical care at La Rabida for his continued health.

“Thanks to La Rabida, I went on to have a big family,” says Tim, who enjoys spending time with his three grown children and 8 grandchildren.

Lighting up the path to education with members of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Incorporated, Nu Chapter.

The professional organization for women educators of color donated crates of puzzles and books to our La Rabida Lighthouse Library. NSPDK members Rosetta Garrett and Cynthia Revels-Young met La Rabida's Anne Wilson at the hospital to deliver this thoughtful contribution, which will help our patients engage their creative minds and spark their interest in reading.

We appreciate their generosity and commitment to supporting young learners at La Rabida.
