What I am asking for is selfish, but I promised people whom I love dearly that I would do it, so I am. Those people include my wife Genevieve and our three children Mark(14), Maeve(12), and Brian(10) . Simply put, I need a liver. 3 years ago, I had my gallbladder removed and during this procedure, the doctors revealed the beginnings of a serious liver disease called Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis or PSC. PSC is an autoimmune disease that causes scarring of the biliary tubes in the liver that causes strictures. These strictures result in bile backing up in the liver and the death of hepatocytes (liver cells). As the condition worsens, the cells can develop into cancer, which has occurred in my liver. I have been receiving chemo and radiation since March 2023 to keep the cancer contained. Since the cancer is the result of the PSC, the only cure is a liver transplant. I am currently on the transplant list at Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. The Northwestern Hospital Liver Transplant Team is one of the best in the country. They have a very specific and strict protocol to determine if someone can be approved as a living donor.
